X FACTOR 2024: MIMI' wins

Music news

Mimì triumphs at X Factor 2024 behind her are Les Votives, I Patagarri and Lorenzo Salvetti.

The first outdoor final in the international history of X Factor crowned Mimì as the winner of the 2024 edition. In front of a Piazza del Plebiscito packed with spectators, the Sky Original show produced by Fremantle saw the young singer from Usmate Velate (Monza-Brianza) triumph, led by her judge Manuel Agnelli. For the latter, in his sixth participation as coach, this is the first victory.

Mimì Caruso, 17 years old, has won over audiences and critics thanks to an impeccable artistic career and her intense and personal interpretations. Raised on soul and jazz, she has been able to integrate indie and hip hop influences into her style, using music as a means to express her emotions and connect with the public.

During the program, Mimì tackled complex and iconic songs such as Figures by Jessie Reyez (which earned her the X Pass at the Auditions), Godspeed by Frank Ocean, Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday and The evening of miracles by Lucio Dalla. He also performed innovative pieces such as EARFQUAKE by Tyler, The Creator and Don't Beat The Girl Out Of My Boy by Anna Calvi, demonstrating an extraordinary vocal and interpretative versatility.

His unpublished, Where are you goingwritten by Madame and produced by Gianmarco Manilardi, is already available on all digital platforms thanks to Warner Music Italy.

On the podium of this edition, Les Votives took second place, followed by PATAGARRI and Lorenzo Salvetti in fourth place.

Mimì's victory marks an important moment for X Factor Italy, in an edition that celebrated music as an instrument of emotion and connection, and for Manuel Agnelli, who finally reaps the fruit of his commitment as a judge.

REPORT CARDS AND COMMENTS (FIRST ROUND)

Lorenzo – “What I miss you doing” by Calcutta – RATING 7.25 – Lorenzo fully convinces me with his cover of Calcutta. Emotion and intensity emerge in every note, supported by an impeccable voice that, as always, knows how to hit the mark. An interpretation that does justice to the song, adding a personal touch.

Les Votives – “Someone Like You” by Adele – RATING 6.50 – Adele is an untouchable icon, and dealing with her repertoire is always a risk. Les Votives, however, dare to reinterpret it in their own way Placebotransforming the song with darker and more biting atmospheres. In the end, the experiment works: they don't distort the essence, but they manage to give it a new perspective.”

MIMI' – “Because The Night” by Patti Smith – RATING 7.00 – Mimì is not intimidated by the monumentality of the square: her stage presence and her interpretation transform the space into an intimate and powerful stage at the same time. For her it's a real plebiscite. Perhaps the voice is a little subdued and not entirely scratchy.

I PATAGARRI – “Cam-Camini' – RATING 7.00 – This song is an authentic celebration of patagarri-style: a bold mix of sonic virtuosity and fluid dynamics that captivate the listener from the first moment. The jazz influence emerges forcefully, not only in the phrasing but also in the free and improvisational attitude that pervades the entire piece. It is a musical journey that is not limited to expressing a genre, but embraces an entire stylistic universe, highlighting the band's ability to make their musical world unique and recognisable.

REPORT CARDS AND COMMENTS (SECOND ROUND)

MIMI'Medley: “Figures” – “You burst in my heart” – “The evening of miracles” – RATING: 7.5
The pieces that most highlighted his clear and biting voice at the same time. Mimì leaves no room for insecurity, it seems that that square has always been her safe space.

LES VOTIVES – Medley: “You make me feel” – “Are you gonna be my girl” – “Sign of the times” – RATING: 6.5
It was always said about Punkcakes: “Punkcakes who make Punkcakes”. Also “Les Votives do Les Votives”. They didn't surprise us much in these live shows but they know how to hold the stage like few others in this edition. The best of worked, the ending was crazy.

I PATAGARRI – Medley: “Stayin' Alive” – “Hey Pachuco” – “Summertime” – RATING: 7
The freshness share, the crazy share (after Punkcake), they are the real outsiders. They brought jazz, but not low-grade jazz. Cohesion and amazement, this is what they conveyed to us in these lives. It doesn't happen but if it does…

LORENZO SALVETTI – Medley: “Tango” – “Margherita” – “Me so' mbriacato”. RATING: 7
Even dressed as “The Godfather”, Lorenzo is a certainty: vocal, stage-holding, sensitive. With Mimì (and Frankly) the spearheads of this X Factor. Certainly the competitor that has grown the most, but also the most traditional and recognizable of all.

REPORT CARDS AND COMMENTS (THIRD HEAT)

LORENZO SALVETTI – “A thousand concerts” – RATING: 7
Among the four, the weakest unreleased one. Ready for Sanremo, some would say. But then on stage it always works, and it works well. The union between voice and interpretation is everything in every one of his performances. Who knows how it will end.

I PATAGARRI – “Caravan” – RATING: 7.5
Oh my, what a piece! Close your eyes and it's summer and you're barefoot in any square in this country that still manages to make us listen to this stuff here. Among the most successful unpublished works, together with another, but I'll tell you which one it is later.

MIMI' – “Where we go” – RATING: 8
Here it is the best of the four unreleased ones. We know that Madame wrote it and perhaps we are a little influenced by this thing that you can almost imagine it sung by her. But Mimì serves it to us like this, with unimaginable maturity, like a true professional.

LES VOTIVES – “Monsters” – RATING: 6.5
Well done, very much. An unreleased song that is perfect for them who have the innate ability to make any melody their own. Did they deserve this final? I don't know but they got there and it must mean something, right? Outside the Italian borders they will do very well.
