Wolfgang Van Halen responds to criticism from David Lee Roth

Music news

David Lee Roth criticized Wolfgang Van Halen in a video posted in January.

Six weeks after David Lee Roth posted an offensive video targeting Wolfgang Van Halen, the Mammoth WVH rocker finally responded. Roth’s video, posted for no apparent reason in January, called Wolfgang a ” schlemiel » (“ silly ” in Yiddish), mocked him for benefiting from nepotism, and complained that Wolfgang had ordered the expulsion of an accountant from behind the scenes after allegedly mistaking her for Roth’s girlfriend.

In an interview given to the show The Morning from Atlanta, Wolfgang admitted that he had heard about the video of ” This Fuckin’ Kid “, and that it did not bother him much, because it is only the last chapter of a ” Van Halen drama » which has lasted for decades.

I think I’m honored that (Roth) thinks of me as much as he doesWolfgang said during the radio interview (via NME). “ I guess you have to take what he says with a grain of salt, given that he also said he wrote ‘Eruption’ and that he had invented Frankenstein (the pattern on Eddie Van Halen’s guitar). He said he wrote all the solos Dad wrote. »

The bassist added: “ I think that’s all I can say. I feel like I was born into this Van Halen drama that happened way before me. And I guess now that my dad isn’t around to be a target anymore, he’s turned to the closest thing. »

While Roth posts mocking videos on YouTube, Wolfgang usually takes the high road when it comes to his former singer, who Wolfgang says is the reason an Eddie Van Halen tribute concert didn’t happen . “ There are some people who make it very difficult when it comes to Van HalenWolfgang told WECB in 2022. Since I’ve been in Van Halen, there are always things that get in the way of making music and having fun. And I think that’s what happened…. The fact that during my time in Van Halen we managed to tour three times, release an album of original songs and a live album is a fucking miracle… Apparently some people are too full of themselves to let others have fun. »
