Who is Brit Awards sensation Raye?

Music news

Nominated in seven categories at the 2024 Brit Awards, a record, Raye gets a nice revenge with the success of her first album “My 21st Century Blues”. Zoom on the British singer-songwriter finally in full light.

At 26 years old, Raye is signing a year 2023 full of twists and turns and it seems that the effects will persist in 2024. The singer made history by becoming the first artist to obtain seven nominations for a single edition of the Brit Awards. A record! And the singer owes her success to the hit “Escapism”, widely popularized on social networks, which earned her two nominations in the “Song of the Year” category, in addition to those for “Artist of the Year”. ‘year’, ‘Best Pop Artist’ and ‘Best R&B Artist’, ‘Album of the Year’ for ‘My 21st Century Blues’ and ‘Best Musical Revelation’.

Thus, the one who made the first European part of SZA’s “SOS Tour” last summer, beats the record of six nominations previously held by Gorillaz in 2002, Craig David in 2001 and Robbie Williams in 1999. A beautiful revenge for the one who until recently was content with the role of artist in the shadow of the success of others.

Independent stripe

Despite everything, and after a few notable singles like “You Don’t Know Me” with Jax Jones, Rachel Keen, alias Raye, exhausted herself asking for her own album which never saw the light of day. The singer, who does not feel respected, finally denounces the situation on social networks in 2021.

“I have albums waiting in folders gathering dust. I have songs that I give to big artists because I’m waiting for confirmation that I’m good enough to release an album. (…) I have waited for this day for seven years and I continue to wait”, she declared in particular on Twitter. A position which ends his collaboration with his label in 2021.

The London singer then regains her independence. It remains to be seen whether it will be able to bounce back to live up to its claims. The answer arrives on February 3, 2023 and is called “My 21st Century Blues”, an album of 15 tracks for 13 titles, including “Hard Out Here”, Raye’s first single released during the summer of 2022. “Black Mascara” will follow. , the excellent “The Thrill Is Gone” and the essential “Escapism”, featuring 070 Shake, which reached 2nd place in the British ranking and 22nd place in the United States. Special mention to the title “Flip A Switch”

Since then, it has been a success story. After a few concerts, including one in France in November 2023, Raye seems to be on the right track. At 26, all he needs is the awards on the evening of Saturday March 2.
