Watch Liam Payne cover Justin Bieber in his latest performance

Music news

The song has special meaning as Liam Payne spoke about the friendly competition between Justin Bieber and One Direction.

During his final performance in 2022, Liam Payne played a stripped-down set in a private venue in London. During the concert, Payne, who died Wednesday after falling from the third floor while in Buenos Aires, played some of his solo hits before performing an acoustic version of “ Love Yourself » by Justin Bieber.

Liam Payne demonstrated his vocal technique alongside his guitarist as he sang the hit from Bieber's 2015 album, Purpose. The song, written by Ed Sheeran and which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, has special significance since Payne had previously spoken about the friendly competition between Bieber and One Direction. On November 13, 2015, both released major projects: Purpose for Justin Bieber and Made in the AM by One Direction, which led to intense debates among fans as to which album would be number one.

Payne revealed years later that he and Bieber eventually spoke and ended any arguments. “ Justin and I had a very long discussion once in his trailerdeclared the singer to Mirror Online in 2019. I came in to tell him: 'Everything is fine. You don't need to do anything'. And then we had a very long talk, and he's a very nice boy. »

Later, in 2022, he diffused tensions by speaking to Logan Paul. He told her how much he identified with Justin Bieber. During their discussion in the trailer, he told Bieber that he always had sympathy for him because the pop star had to face fame alone, while Payne had been able to count on the support of his teammates. The resumption of “ Love Yourself » seems to be another mark of respect.

Liam Payne released his first solo album, LP1in 2019 and embarked on tour at that time. However, he has performed less frequently as of 2021, and the 2022 private acoustic set is listed as his final show on setlist.fm.
