Music news

Honored with the Music Icon Award at the People’s Choice Awards, Lenny Kravitz performed a medley spanning 35 years of career.

Lenny Kravitz performed a medley spanning more than 35 years at the People’s Choice Awards on Sunday. The musician also received the Music Icon award during the ceremony.

Performing in the middle of the audience before walking up the catwalk to join his band on the main stage, he launched into a funky “ Fly Away » followed by the new title « TK421 ”, then he continued with the optimistic “ It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over » before speeding things up to “ Let Love Rule » and the burning « Are You Gonna Go My Way “.

During his acceptance speech, he spoke about the need to stay true to yourself and the importance of love: “ I kept coming back to the word “icon”. It means a lot of things to a lot of people. But to me, it means that you have left an indelible mark by being as God created you and by daring to be different. My music wasn’t black enough. She wasn’t white enough. It didn’t fit into the boxes, it didn’t sound like what was on the radio at the time. I turned down money, big promises, and fame because I couldn’t afford to do something inauthentic. To me, an icon is someone who inspires and teaches others to believe in themselves and their direction, whatever that may be. »

Kravitz also gave advice to aspiring artists: “ Never follow trends, set your own pace and recognize that the best is here and now in front of you “.

He concluded with these words: “ Music is meant to bring us all together. And if I create and play music, it is to amplify love. There is no barrier between the performer and the audience. It’s about all of us embracing the love and unity in this world that God has given us. Love is the strongest force and love will win. We are one. One God, one people, one planet. Let love reign, y’all. THANKS. »

Before his concert, Kravitz spoke about his creative process to the TV station KGETaffiliated with NBC. “ It’s a feelinghe told the channel. You continue to sculpt and shape. One day you listen and you know it’s over. The music tells you. When I write and work, I get as far away from that as possible. »

Kravitz will release his 12th studio album, Blue Electric Light, on May 24. Earlier this month, the four-time Grammy winner, who also received the Global Impact Award, paid tribute to Clarence Avant during the In Memoriam segment. His song ” Road to Freedom ” For the movie Rustin from Netflix was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critic’s Choice Award earlier this year.
