Watch Billy Joel Sing “Turn the Lights Back On” Through the Ages

Music news

The new music video uses artificial intelligence to recreate the Billy Joel of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

The Billy Joels of all decades share the same concern: “ Did I wait too long to turn the light back on? “.

The music video for the musician’s first song in 17 years uses artificial intelligence technology to transition between the Joel ” Piano Man » from the early seventies, the Joel « Storm Front » from the late eighties and the Joel « River of Dreams » from the early nineties. All of which, of course, brings us to today’s Joel, who seems rightly pleased to have recorded a great song worthy of his legacy just months before his 75th birthday. The “quartet” sings the song as one in a montage at the end, which has a sweeping effect similar to that of the song itself.

Earlier this month, Joel performed the song for the first time live at the Grammy Awards.

Joel recently described his evolving relationship with songwriting in an interview with New York Times. “ I remember stressing when I released a recording: Is it going to be a success? What will the critics say? Will people like it? I don’t worry about all that anymore today. I just sang a song. That’s all. If they like it, great. If they don’t like it, that doesn’t mean it’s not good. »
