Video Interview - FRENCH SAINTS: we write songs that "Might have no weight"

“It Could Not Have Weight” is the title of the new musical project by SANTI FRANCESI, an EP (out Friday 8 November) that leads the duo in search of intimate truths.

Six songs with a 2000s rock imprint, the result of an experiment in simplification and immediacy that takes into account only their expressive urgency.

The title explains a concept that they have been thinking about for some time and which concerns not only music, but a certain idea, shared by both, of life.
Each song, and therefore word and sound, is conceived freely, without imagining a goal or recipient.

It could therefore remain suspended, like an echo. But there is something magical that happens when those sounds, those concepts, those images reach someone: if the songs are listened to, then they acquire a value, a weight, a relevance, transforming into something else.

And that conditional at the beginning of the sentence becomes both a warning and a salvation: the difference is made, today and always, by people.

We live in a bulimic time, which moves at great speed, and tends towards ostentation and simulation.

It seems that the reality in which we move drastically impoverishes everyone's sensitivity, inhibiting the ability to stratify it and therefore to interpret and truly experience the present.

This is why the desire is to express oneself without imperatives: to stay away from any real or virtual pedestal in communicating with the public, without simulations and superstructures, without seats from which to make proclamations.

These songs – say the French Saints – are a well-aimed blow that cuts off our breath and legs, brings us to our knees, makes us put our hands on our chests and leaves us imploring in front of all of you. These songs ask for calm, kindness and respect, and like all music, they ask to be heard. Until the end.
