Tina Turner’s album will include bonus tracks, remixes and a complete 1993 concert.
Three decades ago, Tina Turner reclaimed her story with the film’s soundtrack album What’s Love Got to Do With It. She re-recorded the hits she originally recorded with her abusive ex-husband, Ike Turner, so they could be seen as testaments to her survival. These include “ Nutbush City Limits “, ” Proud Mary ” And ” A Fool in Love “. She was just over fifty, her voice was still beautiful and the album became a success. The album will be re-released on April 26 as an expanded box set.
Besides the original album, which also contains solo hits such as “ I Don’t Wanna Fight ” and the title track, the four-disc, one-DVD collection will include one volume of singles, remixes and instrumentals, as well as two volumes containing a complete concert. The concert took place at the Blockbuster Pavilion in San Bernardino, California on September 15, 1993, and the box set includes the concert in both audio and DVD.
The reissue will also be available on two discs, without the concert, and on vinyl, with the remastered edition of the original album released last year.
Tina Turner continued to sing her hits and celebrate her freedom from Ike during her final tour in 2009. She recounted all she endured in her 1986 memoir, which served as the basis to the movie What’s Love Got to Do With It, in which Angela Bassett plays the singer. The actress delivered Tina Turner’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speech in 2021. When I played Tina in What’s Love Got to Do With It, I had the terrifying opportunity to try to understand how she became the extraordinary woman we have come to knowshe declared in her speech. Fortunately, I was able to count on the generous advice of Tina herself to help me. It was one of the most demanding roles I have ever played. But it was also one of the most rewarding. Because just like Tina, I was a little black girl whose dreams went far beyond what the world expected of me. » The film was a huge success, and Bassett and Laurence Fishburne were both nominated for Academy Awards for their respective roles. The soundtrack album rose to number 17 on the album chart Billboard and has since been certified platinum. Turner died of natural causes last year.
