The Weeknd: the video for “São Paulo” with Anitta terrifies his fans

Music news

The Weeknd and Anitta have just unveiled “São Paulo”, their long-awaited duet. The clip that accompanies this song did not fail to appeal to their audience.

The Weeknd featuring Anitta: the announcement is a dream. The most popular singer in the world invited, for a duet, the South American star propelled by his reggaeton track “Envolver”, who has become a true icon in his country of birth, Brazil.

Their song, made available this Wednesday, October 30, is titled “São Paulo”. A direct reference to the origin of Anitta, but also to the exceptional concert given by The Weeknd in this city last month. It was also during this show that the two artists performed their duet exclusively in front of 70,000 people.

A confusing clip

To accompany the release of “São Paulo” on streaming platforms, The Weeknd and Anitta unveiled a clip that was, to say the least,… unexpected. In a nocturnal atmosphere, we discover the Brazilian star wearing a white mask, symbolic of The Weeknd's universe. She wanders around at night, adorned with a well-rounded belly. Feeling nauseous, Anitta runs into a fountain, where the strangeness of the clip is revealed: at the level of her navel, a mouth has taken shape and is now singing The Weeknd's verses.

In the comments of the YouTube video, Internet users do not hide their amazement. “My eyes are terrified but my ears are hypnotized“, wrote one of them. “I was expecting this video to have Halloween vibes, instead it was a nightmare“, says another in horror. However, this video, viewed more than 1.5 million times in ten hours, has won over some of its viewers: “I really liked this clip, it looks like a low budget horror film from the 2000s where body horror was predominant“, rejoices a user.

“São Paulo” is the fourth single from The Weeknd's upcoming album “Hurry Up Tomorrow”, following “Open Hearts”, “Dancing in the Flames” and “Timeless”. This opus, whose release date has not yet been revealed, will mark the end of a trilogy started with “After Hours” (2020) and continued with “Dawn FM” (2022). This sixth studio album will be the last under his pseudonym “The Weeknd”.
