The Soprano Hotte interview: “Mariah Carey, it’s my favorite jingle!”

Music news

INTERVIEW – As the holidays approached, Soprano lent a hand to the WECB teams. His challenge: to wrap a gift while looking back on his very rich year 2024.

WECB invites you to experience the magic of the holidays with your favorite artists through the Hotte Interview. After Helena, this time, it was Soprano who joined in the fun, sharing anecdotes, projects and memories around Christmas. So, what gifts does he dream of for the holidays? What moments stood out to him this year? And what does he have in store for the coming year?

2024, a rich year for Sopra

“I like giving gifts. But wrapping them? I prefer to leave that to my children”confides the Marseille rapper, amused by the exercise. If gift wrapping is not his cup of tea, Soprano has nevertheless excelled in his projects throughout the year. In June, he released his album “Freedom”, followed by an exceptional concert in the Old Port on the occasion of the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. At the same time, he launched into cinema with the filming of the film “Marius and the Guardians of the Ditchenne City”, scheduled for 2025. Without forgetting the finalization of another album, “Émancipation”, which he completed this year.

Mariah Carey and manga: the essentials

For the holidays, the Marseille artist also focuses on his family. His children, with their XXL wish lists. For his part, as an unconditional manga fan, he continues his quest for full-size figurines: Luffy, Sangoku and even Saitama… are at the top of his list.

On the music side, the artist remains faithful to an unbeatable classic: “I have a favorite jingle, it's Mariah Carey. As soon as she sings 'It's tiiiiiime' in November, I die laughing”he confides delighted. And for Christmas movie evenings, he opts for a safe bet: “Santa Claus is trash (…) un classic of my generation.

A generous Christmas

More than anything, Soprano loves sharing the magic of Christmas with those in need. He says he regularly goes to hospitals to give gifts: “There are a lot of artists who do it, and so do we. We arrive with albums, toys, lots of stuff. Once, I came with a big shopping cart full of gifts.” This generosity also extends to marauding, in which he likes to bring comfort and human warmth: “You see people saying to themselves: ‘There is someone thinking of us,’ and that’s beautiful,” comments Soprano.

Among his resolutions for 2025, he plans to devote more time to his family, immerse himself more in reading, and finalize an ambitious project: the album “Renaissance”, inspired by manga. “I'm on that, mixed with a little sport”he specifies, giving a glimpse of a year full of surprises.
