THE MURDER CAPITAL the rise of the new Dubliners. Listen to the single “The Fall”

Music news

Spotlight on The Murder Capital, the Irish band that in the wake of attention left by fellow citizens Fontaines DC is rewriting the rules of contemporary post-punk.

The release of “Blindness”, their third and most highly anticipated album, is scheduled for February 21st, preceded by a series of singles that have revealed its intensity and ambition. Among these, The Fall, song that perfectly embodies the band's sonic and lyrical soul: a mixture of scorching guitars, cacophonous crescendos and lyrics steeped in existential reflections.

The fall is inevitable,” says frontman James McGovern, “it's one finger on the self-destruct button while the other clings to a meditative position.” His words capture the essence of The Fall, a song that, like other songs on Blindness, explores the dualism between vulnerability and resistance, desperation and hope.

Consisting of 11 tracks, “Blindness” is the fruit of intense and itinerant creative work.
Born in Ireland, developed between London and Berlin, and finally recorded in Los Angeles under the guidance of John Congleton, a Grammy-winning producer, the album embodies the emotional geography of a band that has made movement its stylistic signature.

Congleton asked Murder Capital to abandon traditional demos and embrace a more spontaneous approach:

No song was stifled by what it needed to be, it was about what the song could become,” says McGovern. This philosophy gave birth to urgent and fresh songs, recorded in three weeks with an energy that shines through in every note.

Among the singles released while waiting for the album, Love Of Country stands out for its political and humanitarian message: all proceeds from the sale of the song, available in a limited edition on 7″ and digitally, are destined for Medical Aid For Palestinians. A gesture that underlines the band's connection with social causes and the desire to use music as an impactful tool.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE BAND

From their debut with When I Have Fears (2019), an album steeped in grief and anger, to the more introspective Gigi's Recovery (2023), Murder Capital have demonstrated a unique ability to evolve without losing their identity. Blindness represents a further step forward, both sonically and thematically.

As stated by McGovern in an interview with DIY Magazine, this time the challenge was different:

Our experience has always been that of writing in the midst of grief or pandemic. This time, with a relatively peaceful life, we found ourselves having to look for a new starting point.” This research led the band to strip away the superfluous, focusing on the immediacy of the songs. “We want the music to be like a needle dropping straight into the heart of the track.”
