A walk on the beach in Texas turned into an unforgettable encounter when Eric Yanta, a man from San Antonio, came across an unusual creature. Little did he know that this seemingly harmless, blue-and-white animal was actually one of the most dangerous marine creatures in the world.
A Surprising Discovery on Mustang Island
Eric, who was vacationing on Mustang Island with his wife, was enjoying a peaceful stroll along the beach when something caught their eye. About 2.5 centimeters in size, the tiny creature was clinging to a rock in the sand.
“My wife noticed a bright blue shape, and as we got closer, we saw it was some sort of creature,” Eric recalled. “I picked it up, holding it in my hand with some sand, not because I thought it was dangerous, but because it looked so small and fragile.”
Eric, intrigued by the creature, decided to pick it up, film it, and then release it back into the water. He later posted the video on Reddit, asking for help identifying the species.
The Blue Dragon: A Venomous Marine Mollusk

Even a brief touch can result in severe reactions, including anaphylactic shock or, in extreme cases, death.
Eric, unaware of the danger at the time, was lucky to escape unscathed after handling the creature. However, even after learning about its venomous nature, he expressed that his actions wouldn’t have changed.
“I had a good laugh after discovering how dangerous it could be,” Eric said. “I would have done the same thing. I would have picked it up, filmed it, and put it back in the water.”
