” Talking Heads: 77 (Super Deluxe Edition) » will be released on November 8 and will contain previously unreleased material and live recordings.
Digging through their musical archives, Talking Heads unearthed hours of material that will appear on the upcoming reissue of Talking Heads: 77 (Super Deluxe Edition). On November 8, this vast edition will include four albums, including a previously unreleased acoustic version of “ Psycho Killer “, recorded with the late musician Arthur Russell almost fifty years ago.
” We knew the cellist and singer-songwriter Arthur Russell. He died prematurely of AIDS and, during his life, he released very disparate recordssaid David Byrne of Talking Heads in a statement, recalling Russell's disco records of the Seventies and Eighties. He left a huge legacy of recordings, which are still filtering through 40 years after his death. »
Byrne continues: “ I remember seeing him play Philip Glass' music for a production of Mabou Mines of a Beckett play. I think Beckett's friends hated it because they didn't want music in his plays. So it was no surprise that we invited Arthur to arrange and play on an alternative version of “Psycho Killer“Somewhat perversely, I always thought of this song as a bit more intimate folk-rock than the rock song that people seemed to like. So I was particularly attached to this version.. »
The acoustic version of ” Psycho Killer » surfaced on an earlier reissue of Talking Heads: 77 from 2006. On the new edition, the recording is housed in a box set that includes a remastered version of the original disc, as well as a full album of rare and unreleased demo recordings and outtakes. Among the songs discovered are alternate versions of ” Psycho Killer » and of « Pulled Up “, which takes a pop turn. There are also 13 live recordings of Talking Heads at CBGB in New York on October 10, 1977.
A collection of photos, illustrations and handbills will be published in an 80-page book, accompanied by notes by Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz and Jerry Harrison, all members of Talking Heads.
The album of Talking Heads: 77 arrived on September 16, 1977 as the band's first full-length album.
