SZIGET Festival, the European Festival scheduled from 7 to 12 August 2024, announces the first artists who will grace its stages.
Lasting 6 days, every year Sziget transforms Budapest’s Ă“buda Island into the “Island of Freedom”, the area becomes a real “toyland” which welcomes thousands of visitors from over 100 countries, of of which almost 40,000 are staying on the Island. As always, music lovers can expect many different types of entertainment with more than 50 stages dedicated to music, theatre, circus, art and much more.
THE HEADLINERS
Among the first headliners were Stormzy, Fred again.., Sam Smith and Martin Garrix. In addition to them, there will be: LIBERATO, AMÉMÉ, Blondshell, Crystal Fighters, Eris Drew & Octo Octa, Fontaines DC, Four Tet, Honey Dijon, Fideles, Joost, Joesef, Joker Out, Louis Tomlinson, L’ImpĂ©ratrice, MEUTE, Nia Archives, Dom Dolla, Nova Twins, Overmono, Pip Blom, Warhaus and many more will be announced.
In 2024, Sziget will welcome the UK’s treasure, producer Fred again… celebrated for his avant-garde style, which seamlessly mixes different genres, taking his audience on a journey to euphoria, emotion and nostalgia. The incandescent Sam Smith will captivate audiences around the world with his silky soulful voice and bold performances. Bringing even more British charisma to the main stage is Big Mike, better known as Stormzy: grime’s most versatile voice, renowned for his energetic live presence. This dynamic line-up also welcomes DJ and producer Martin Garrix, known for his EDM hits and impressive light and sound shows. The Island of Freedom will welcome the mysterious Neapolitan artist LIBERATO, with almost 1 million monthly streamings on Spotify and his identity still hidden; he will perform his always eagerly awaited live on Freedome, one of the two most important stages of the festival. The stage is located under a circus tent that seats over 12,000 people. One of the few dates in 2024 will therefore be in the Sziget Festival.
Four Tet, the pioneering master of electronic music, is ready to mesmerise everyone with his eclectic sounds, while Fontaines DC, Dublin’s post-punk giants, promise a raw and enthralling live experience. Big Thief, led by the evocative voice of Adrianne Lenker, create intimate indie-folk landscapes, weaving genuine emotions with poetic narratives, while Aurora, the ethereal Norwegian pop enchantress, will captivate the Sziget crowd with her hypnotic sounds.
Deepening this star-studded list is chart-topping revelation Becky Hill, who will bring her infectious mix of pop to the masses. Parisian electro-pop discovery, L’ImpĂ©ratrice, will enchant audiences with her dreamy and lively sounds, while electro-folk fusion pioneers Crystal Fighters will offer their vibrant and innovative sounds, studded to the core with positive messages, creating good vibrations non-stop.
Honey Dijon, a global icon in the electronic music scene, will dominate with her signature mix of house and techno beats, as will Dom Dolla, an Australian DJ and producer who commands the dance floor with infectious house anthems. Also joining the line-up are ANOTR, the Amsterdam-based duo whose haunting sound is characterized by energetic sounds mixed with disco, soul, funk, jazz and other musical influences. Overmono, the Welsh brothers who create electronic storms of sound, will rock the Sziget crowd, along with Nia Archives, who are dominating the world of drum n bass. Elsewhere, dance fans will appreciate the unstoppable creative force of Eris Drew & Octo Octa, whose sets are a celebration of their love for each other, dance music and the queer community. Fideles, a project born in 2009 by two Italian DJs from Taranto, touring the most influential clubs in the world, will also arrive on the Island of Freedom.
Post-punk provocateurs Yard Act will play their socially conscious and energetic songs, while Joesef, hailed as one of the UK’s hottest new talents, will showcase his soulful vocals and emotionally charged lyrics. Warhaus, known for its passionate sound imbued with genuine emotion, will be a truly fascinating musical experience for the Sziget crowd. Parisian DJ ChloĂ© Caillet spins genres from deep house to techno, creating immersive and eclectic sets for her audience, while Colombian DJ and producer AMÉMÉ will light up the dance floor with his explosive set.
Furthermore, on this year’s billboard there will also be the dynamic English duo Nova Twins, known for their explosive fusion of punk, rock and electronic elements. Joost, the Dutch rapper and producer who stands out for his distinctive style, which blends fun lyrics with infectious beats. Blondshell, with its infectious energy and a sound that transcends genres and leaves the audience speechless. Norwegian pop sensation Dagny, who delivers infectious and powerful anthems while showcasing her vocal abilities and impetuosity.
Reflecting on how this diverse line-up represents the large audience that Sziget attracts every year, the festival’s CEO, Tamás Kádár, shares: “We have already received a lot of positive feedback during this year’s edition of Sziget on how much the festival has improved in almost all areas compared to Sziget 2022, and from early bird ticket sales so far we can see great interest in the 2024 festival.” He goes on to say: “This announcement, which is only the first ‘package’ for now, shows that next year too Sziget will present major global stars, current artists and newly discovered musical revelations, so that everyone is offered a strong and exciting music, regardless of genre.”
