Documentaries about Selena, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Jeff Buckley and Sly Stone are among the films in competition at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, which takes place next month.
The film by Amir Thompson (known as Questlove), Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius) will premiere at the festival, which kicks off in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, on January 23. This is the continuation of Summer of Soul, the Academy Award-winning Roots drummer's directorial debut.

Other new music documentaries include It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley And Selena and Los Dinos, with previously unpublished images of these two artists who died too soon, as well as One to One: John & Yoko, which chronicles the 18 months during which Lennon and Ono moved into New York's Greenwich Village.
Furthermore, Pee-wee as Himselfa two-part documentary about the late Paul Reubens and his alter ego Pee-wee Herman, will be presented at the festival.
As for fiction films, Sundance will host the first screening of the latest big screen adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman with Jennifer Lopez, Opus with Ayo Edebiri and Juliette Lewis, and If I Had Legs I'd Kick Youa film produced by Josh Safdie starring Rose Byrne, Conan O'Brien and A$AP Rocky.
