The documentary ” Sly Lives! (Aka the Burden of Black Genius) »Will tell the story of the emblematic group Sly and the Family Stone.

Amir Thompson's next documentary (alias Questlove) is revealed in a trailer. Sly Lives! (Aka the Burden of Black Genius) Presents the dazzling ascent of the Sly and the Family Stone group and the cultural impact of its enigmatic leader Sly Stone.

The film was presented in preview Thursday, at the Sundance Film Festival, and its release is scheduled for February 13 on Hulu. According to a press release, the documentary ” Examine the life and heritage of Sly & The Family Stone, the revolutionary group led by the charismatic and enigmatic Sly Stone ». The project will approach ” The ascent of the group, its reign and its subsequent decline, while highlighting the invisible burden of success for black artists in America ».

This is the first film of the drummer of the Roots since Summer of Soul (which highlighted the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, nicknamed the “ Black Woodstock ), Rewarded with an Oscar. The documentary has been in preparation for a long time. Joseph Patel and Derik Murray are the producers of the documentaries. The members of the Family Stone, Jerry Martini, Larry Graham Jr. and Greg Errico, appear in Sly Lives! Alongside Andre 3000, Chaka Khan, Q-Tip, Angelo, Nile Rodgers and Clive Davis.
