In 2012, Bayford hit the jackpot, winning a staggering €187 million in the EuroMillions lottery. Initially filled with generosity, she gave £20 million (about €25 million) to her parents and brother to help them clear their debts. She didn’t stop there; she also gifted them an apartment on the Scottish coast. Yielding to her parents’ insistence, she handed about €1 million to her brother, enabling him to start a new business.
Family Tensions Escalate
However, according to Bayford, this generosity wasn’t met with gratitude. Instead, it seemed to spark greed and malice within her family. She recounted how her family members constantly harassed her for more money, despite already having splurged on houses and luxury cars. “They’ve lost touch with their roots… They scoff at people. I find that displeasing,” Bayford shared, reflecting on her family’s behavior. They now live in a €300,000 apartment and drive an Audi S8, a stark contrast to their previous lifestyle and, seemingly, their values.
Broken Family Bonds
The fallout from these financial tensions was severe. Bayford’s relationship with her family deteriorated to the point where she was not invited to her brother’s wedding and no longer speaks to her mother. Adding to her distress, her father passed away in 2021.
