Shawn Mendes touching and vulnerable in “Shawn”, his new album

Music news

The Canadian singer makes his return with a new album unveiled this Friday, November 15. An opus in which Shawn Mendes finds a way to reinvent himself.

Shawn Mendes is making his return to the forefront after having been discreet in recent months despite the release of several extracts from his new album which is revealed today. A fifth opus simply titled “Shawn”, composed of 12 tracks and free of any collaboration, which the Canadian singer took time to finalize and which fans can finally discover.

Unveiled before this expected release, we find in the album the titles “Why Why Why”, “Isn't That Enough”, “Nobody Knows” and “Heart of Gold” in which he talks about his fears, his doubts and his anxiety. Songs quite revealing of the way in which Camila Cabello's former companion – with whom he notably released the hit “Señorita” in 2019 – chose to tell his audience about himself in this new record.

A return to the stage possible?

Music can truly be a cure. Two years ago, I felt like I had no idea who I was. A year ago, I couldn't walk into a studio without going into complete panic. So to be here now with 12 beautiful songs completed is such a gift“, confided Shawn Mendes in the caption of an Instagram post published last July.

After deciding to no longer perform on stage in order to focus on his mental health, the singer announced that he felt ready to go back on tour. “I think there's always a part of me that wants to go play and put on a huge show – it would be so high energy and so much fun“, he confided to In Conversation before adding: “And I'm not going to let my fear of the past control the future in that sense. So if that urge starts to come back, I'm not going to fight it.”

So what better way to wait than to listen to his new project “Shawn”?
