The interview

Let's start with your song, “Amarcord”. There are words like Déjà Vu, demo and precisely amarcord that refer to the past. Still, you are very young. What does this link with the past represent for you?

“Amarcord” is a song that I am very close to, I think I will be forever. It represents my first Sanremo, an important moment in my career. I wanted to bring something on stage that showed not only my vocal skills, but also my attitude. It is a song that starts like a veiled ballad, and then transformed into a rhythmic piece and uptempo. The citations to the past are a way to reflect on experiences that, in one way or another, concern us all, regardless of age.

Let's talk about your voice, which is very versatile and full of shades. How important is the voice in today's music? Do you put more technical or more emotion?

For me it is essential to find a balance between technique and emotion. Each artist has his approach: there are those who focus more on emotion and those on technical precision. I try to unite both aspects. At Amici I learned to know my voice, and I am continuing to do it thanks to the lessons with a vocal coach. I like to explore the different shades of my voice, adapting them to the songs. In “Amarcord”, for example, I start with a lighter tone and then get to a greater intensity.
The emotion, however, is always present, especially when I really feel a song and I live it fully.

In the evening of the duets. You have chosen to collaborate with the Ofenbach, bringing “Overdrive”. How did this choice come about?

I wanted to maintain a common thread with “amarcord”, so I thought of a rhythmic piece, which would make dance and that had an international imprint. I love the world of international music, artists like Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo fascinate me a lot. Ofenbach are perfect for this: I respect them a lot and I love their job. We have chosen “Overdrive” because it is an impactful song, which gives space to the voice and has a liberating energy, a bit like “amarcord”.
In addition, we worked a lot to make the song unique, adapting it to me and adding some surprises that I don't want to reveal yet.

Was “Amarcord” born by thinking about Sanremo or did he arrive spontaneously?

It was not born by thinking specifically in Sanremo. When I write, I don't place precise goals: the songs come by themselves. With my team, however, we immediately understood that “Amarcord” was the right piece for Sanremo. We worked further, adding tools and details to make it even more suitable for live.

Sanremo is a festival that combines different generations. You are the youngest in the race: how do you think the public will welcome “amarcord”?

I believe that music is universal. “Amarcord” speaks of memories and nostalgia, themes that concern everyone, regardless of age. I tell my experience as a 19 -year -old girl, but anyone can find themselves in these emotions. Those who have a past, those who have lived moments they want to remember or who maybe make him feel bad, can recognize themselves in this song.

What are your expectations for Sanremo? What do you wish you to live during this experience?

I have no major ranking claims. My goal is to make me know by the public, especially by those who have never seen me before. Sanremo is a unique opportunity to reach many people. I want to enjoy every moment, despite stress and pressure. They told me that many artists get lost in anxiety and cannot fully experience the week. I, on the other hand, want to remember every moment, get to the end satisfied with what I did and how I lived it.

Have you always looked at the Sanremo Festival in past editions? If this year I was a spectator from home, who would you cheer?

I have always followed the festival, but I confess that I never let myself be conditioned too much by the artist: for me above all the song counts. This year I have not yet listened to the songs, so I want to hear everything first before I give a judgment. In general, however, there are artists that I follow and admire, such as Rose Villain, Irama and Giorgia.

But Sanremo will not only be the opportunity to present his unpublished. During the evening of the covers, scheduled for Friday 14 February 2025, Sarah will duet with the French duo of Ofenbach, known for the international success “Overdrive”, which has reached the gold certification in Italy with over 398.3 million streams on Spotify. The choice to collaborate with a duo that boasts more than 4.7 billion global streams is not accidental: it demonstrates the international ambition of Sarah Toscano, an artist who combines a fresh and engaging style with a voice capable of speaking directly to the heart of the public young.

The tour

Sarah Toscano is preparing to return to the stages of Milan and Rome in October 2025 for two lives in the clubs of these cities:

Saturday 18 October 2025 will be at the General Warehouses in Milan,
