SANREMO 2024 - BNKR44: This government is not punk enough!

PUNK GOVERNMENT is the song that BNKR44 brought to the stage of the 74th edition of the Sanremo Italian Song Festival.

THE SONG

It is an energetic, fun, light song. It is neither a punk nor political song, despite what the title might suggest.

It is the representation of a state of mind, of a rebellion, the escape from the boredom of the province, the escape from the canons and what is standardized.

The Punk Government of the title is us, who live by our rules.”

Compared to last night’s performance, we need to manage the breathlessness and dry throat that the stage brought us a little better.

THE EVENING COVER

BNKR44 will duet on the stage of the Sanremo Festival with Pino D’Angiò, during the evening dedicated to covers on Friday 9 February.

The group from Empoli and the famous Neapolitan singer-songwriter, who made the history of Italo Disco music and sold millions of copies all over the world, will perform to the tune of the famous song “Ma Quale Idea”, a song by Pino recently rediscovered even by very young people , which made it a viral hit on TikTok and digital platforms.

We are thrilled to bring a milestone from an incredible artist, “Ma cheidea” is a hit for all generations. Pino is one of us, full of life and energy; and then like us Tuscans he has an angular, cutting humour”.

It will be a truly special Bnkr version!

THE PROJECT

Since April we have a series of live shows and then a summer tour. Since there are six of us, we churn out a bunch of pieces and we’ll see what we can create.
Sanremo represents the opening of a new cycle. The higher we get, the better!
This is an experience that is uniting us a lot and this in itself is a success.
We’ve been a bit disconnected lately and this Sanremo brought us great energy!
Our goal is the Empoli stadium.

ABOUT BNK44

We are six provincial guys with a passion for music who are creating something different.
bnkr44 were born from the collaboration between 7 guys from Villanova, a small hamlet in the province of Florence, in 2019. A unique project with an unpredictable sound, launched at high speed into the new Italian pop, bnkr are Erin, Piccolo, Faster, JxN, Caph and Fares, led and coordinated by the artistic director gheray0; between music, painting, clothing creation and production, their unique and recognizable work is a manifesto of the perseverance of the young people of the Italian province, willing to put everything on the line to share their vision with the world.

After their debut album “44. DELUXE” (born after a single 3-day session), they released their first EPs as soloists, immediately distinguishing themselves as an anomalous element for the Italian music scene. Following their first summer tour and entry into Spotify’s Radar program, their unique style, the result of the fusion between the different backgrounds of the members, was consecrated in “FORSI MALE A NOI VA BENE”; the album was later released in the definitive version with “2.0” released on May 27, 2022 and preceded by the singles “SO CHI SEI” and “COSA CI RESTA”.

The album represents the manifesto of bnkr’s style, which expresses their urban-pop formula together with the desire to experiment and discover the sounds of modern and future times; following the release, bnkr left for a promotional tour which allowed them to tour the entire peninsula in more than 20 dates. In the final part of 2022 they sign important collaborations in “BOTOX” by Night Skinny with “Diavolo” (feat. Ghali, Rkomi and Tedua) and “Così non va” (feat. Madame, Gaia, Rkomi and Elisa) and in “X2 Deluxe ” by Sick Luke with “Domani ti callo” (feat. Tananai). Starting from December 28th they began to publish clues on Instagram regarding their new single, ‘PER NON SENTIRE LA NOIA’, out on 01/13/2023 via Bomba Dischi with distribution by Virgin Records/Universal. In the 2023 edition of the Sanremo Festival they participate in the covers evening as guests of Sethu with “Charlie fa Surf RMX” (Baustelle).

On March 17th “GUIDA SPERICOLATA” was released, the second extract from their new album entitled “FUORISTRADA”, released on 04/28/23. After participating in the May Day concert in Piazza San Giovanni in Rome, Bnkr44 collaborated on “La Divina Commedia”, Tedua’s latest album, on the track “La Verità”. Among the winners of Sanremo Giovani 2023, the collective will be competing at the 74th edition of the Italian Song Festival with “GOVERNO PUNK”.
