Rock in Rio Festival Celebrates 40th Anniversary with Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran and More

The festival Rock in Riowhich opened its festivities in 1985 with Queen as headliner, is back this fall with a beautiful line up, celebrating its 40 years of good and loyal service! The 2024 edition will take place from September 13 to 22.

The program includes more than 700 artists and groups spread across the stages of the event, including Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons, Travis Scott, Angélique Kidjo, Gloria Gaynor, Katy Perry, Cindy Lauper and Mariah Carey. The organizers expect to receive more than 700,000 spectators. The shows will be spread across seven stages, located in the City of Rock, in Jacarepaguá, a site located on the seafront, in the west of Rio de Janeiro.

To celebrate its anniversary, the festival presents several new features, such as a video mapping that will summarize the past editions of the festival and will be broadcast every night before the main shows. There will also be thematic exhibitions, immersive animations, and a day specially dedicated to Brazilian music and artists.

Rock in Rio organizers are also preparing a musical called “Dreams, mud and rock and roll,” which will pay homage to a festival that has become a worldwide trademark and now has branches in Portugal, Madrid and Las Vegas.
