Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Cher, Ozzy Osbourne and Oasis among the nominees

Music news

Other nominees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame include Mariah Carey, Sinéad O’Connor, Mary J. Blige, Kool & the Gang and Lenny Kravitz.

The 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations have been revealed, and the list includes Cher, Ozzy Osbourne, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, and A Tribe Called Quest. The winners will be announced at the end of April and the ceremony will take place in Cleveland later this year.

This remarkable list of nominees reflects the diversity of artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebratessaid John Sykes, president of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, in a statement. Continuing the true spirit of Rock & Roll, these artists created their own sounds that left their mark on generations and influenced countless people who followed in their footsteps. »

To appear on this year’s ballot, each candidate’s first single or album had to be released before 1999. Ten of the fifteen nominees (Mariah Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne and Sade) are on the ballot for the first time. All have been eligible in previous years.

This is the third nomination for A Tribe Called Quest and the second for Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim and Jane’s Addiction.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony has been the occasion for many amazing reunions over the years. This year’s band Oasis could be the biggest, but it’s very difficult to imagine given that Noel and Liam Gallagher remain bitterly divided and focused on their solo careers. It’s also an opportunity for Ozzy Osbourne to perform in public, for the surviving members of Foreigner and A Tribe Called Quest to reunite, and for Dave Navarro to play with Jane’s Addiction for the first time since Covid.

Surprisingly, Cher has never been nominated before, either as a solo artist or as one half of Sonny and Cher. “ I’m not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fameshe exclaims to Kelly Clarkson in December 2023. You know what ? I wouldn’t want to be there if someone gave me a million dollars. I will never change my mind. They can go and do you know what. »

With or without Cher, the ceremony will be broadcast live for the second year in a row on Disney+. A special montage will air later on ABC and will be available on Hulu the following day.
