Veronica Lucchesi and Dario Mangiaracina embody, in their own way, the “Giorni Felici” that they celebrate in their new album.
The title itself is a bet: an ambiguous hymn that suggests the precariousness of the present, that perpetual oscillation between shadow and light, between the sweetness of the moment and its inevitable transience.
Anger, disappointment, pride and happy days. Lucidity, depression, desperation, pain, redemption and happy days. Past and future coexist in the present, graceful and looming. “We, fast and still, broken, sharpened by life, but with wings to fly. Convinced once again that we can resist”, this is how La Representative di Lista describes the new work.
For LRDL, this album represents a journey into their mind, a lyrical and sonic representation of the current state of the band, marking a new phase in writing and composition, consolidating an increasingly recognizable and personal sonic style.
Once again, LRDL explores in greater depth the sounds that evoke memories of growing up and coming of age, generational anthems that remain indelible in the bones and that inspire the soundtrack of today. The themes remain those dear to the project: LRDL continues to investigate human emotion, relating it to others and to the world.
To make the album, the couple traveled: from New York, where they met guitarist Kit Conway, to Damon Albarn's Studio 13 in London, up to Palermo, Arezzo and Milan, where everything took shape at the Casa degli Artisti in 2023.
Sonically, the album starts with great energy. Until Worldthe album flows quickly, in an almost uninterrupted flow. With this song, the pace slows down and then picks up again Karaoke and definitely accelerate with Baby Baila and the next Countdownwhere Veronica also experiments with autotune and ends with an unexpectedly languid pace.
The closing with Bad surprises: a gritty rock sung only by Dario, enriched by strident guitars and pressing rhythms, which however is, in my opinion, not very in line with the rest of the album.
These are “Happy Days” for LRDL, which offer themselves as a promise of catharsis and introspection for our “Happy Days” too.
