Review: Partynextdoor and Drake – “$$$ 4U (Some Sexy Songs 4 U)”

Reviews

Do you want for the Sanremo Festival that has completely monopolized the Italian music scene, either because it is a collaborative album, but the fact is that “$$$ 4U ($ Ome $ exy $ ongs 4 U)”, the new Drake and Partynextdoor album, he came out almost anonymously and underground way.

Drake has “broken bone” from a musical point of view. The feud with Kendrick Lamar has exhausted him and put it to the carpet especially after the deadly blows launched by Lamar to Grammy and Super Bowl.

Drake with fatigue tries to get up and to do this he publishes a joint project with one of the most viewed producers of the moment and his fellow citizen, partynextdoor (both from Toronto). To avoid another dramatic ko, he puts his hands forward while remaining in the background and leaving the ownership of the project in Partynextdoor. In fact, the album is a bit like the sequel to “Partynextdoor 4 (P4)” released last year.

The disc marks a return of Drake to a family ground, a sort of comfort area which, however, does not spare the most recurring criticisms. The texts, too often trivial, are accompanied by an excessive use of Autotune and a general lack of that creative spark that, in the past, has characterized his music.

Some songs, with their velvety beat and soft atmospheres, precisely “some sexy songs for you” offer moments of pleasant escape for the most faithful fans; However, other tracks fall into dozen clichés and are without authenticity, clearly revealing its current limits and how the artist urgently needs a break to find the right inspiration and redefine his artistic direction.

Personally, I have never been a great admirer of collaborative records, who often consider unnecessary commercial operations without a true identity. In this case, the album does not stand out from this stereotype: it is not a disaster, but remains at the limit of sufficiency, without bringing anything revolutionary or Drake, much less to Partynextdoor. If the intention was to give a new turning point to Drake's career, it is clear that the move has missed the target.

Tell me that Drake's new album will come out soon … please!
