Review: ORNELLA VANONI – “Diverse” (Track by Track)

Reviews

Ornella does what she wants and, at the dawn of her 90th birthday, she decided to dance! To do this, give the public a new album.

“Diverse” is a precious album. First of all because it shows us Ornella in great form, almost as if age didn't matter at all, and secondly because it makes her repertoire available to young producers, who revisit her historical songs.

Here new songs come to life, with new arrangements and rhythms.

Thinking about how much music and sounds have changed today, I decided to get involved and dive into the wave of modernity, collecting some of my most classic songs, the ones I like the most, to bring them up to date, also thanks to collaboration with really good young producers.»

The new versions are “different”, songs which, in their original conception, were perhaps conceived with melancholic or introspective overtones, but now they solarize, flutter and change shape. A fun experiment that doesn't take anything away from the original versions, on the contrary! As in the case of the individual I love you with Elodie and Ditonellapiaga, produced by Giordano Colombo, which becomes an absolutely hilarious and contemporary hit as well as Go, Valentina in the hands of Lorenzo Morresi it becomes an almost edm banger.

Ornella Vanoni, through music, is still able to forcefully communicate, even at 90 years old, what words alone could never express, demonstrating once again that age is only a condition and that one can be young even at 90 if you have ideas and prospects for the future.

The future does not age and Ornella is musical proof of this.

TRACK BY TRACK

LOST
Original title: “Procuro olvidarte”
By: Ornella Vanoni, Magdalena Ana, Manuel Alvarez Beigbeder Perez, Romero Casas Purification, Alejandro Manuel
Produced by: Hey Simo (Simone Sproccati)

Accompanying the announcement of the release of Diverse are the insistent and energetic strings of Perduto, a 1992 song for which Ornella is also the author of the lyrics. Inevitable in the live shows of the lady of Italian music, Perduto presents itself today in a completely new guise and shines again thanks to Ornella's collaboration with the DJ and producer Heysimo, aka Simone Sproccati. The melancholy for the end of a love story is tinged with modern electro-disco sounds, making this new single the perfect musical bridge between past and present.

I KNOW I WILL LOVE YOU
By: Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius De Moraes, Sergio Bardotti
Produced by: Giordano Colombo

The second track of Diverse is one of the most beautiful poems in music interpreted by Ornella Vanoni: Io so che ti amorerò is a profound declaration of love, a bet on the feelings of the future accompanied by that light and melancholy fear of the present that keeps two lovers. In this new version of Io so che ti amorerò – embellished by the production of Giordano Colombo – desire, understanding, expectation and love dance to the rhythm of bossa nova and lounge music.

RAINBOW
By: Giuliano Sangiorgi
Produced by: Protopapa (Stefano Libertini) & Dumar (Mattia Delmoro)

Born from the collaboration of Ornella with her friend Giuliano Sangiorgi, guided by the arrangement and voice of Fabio Ilacqua, Arcobaleno is the story of a pure and fragile soul. With Diverse, the dreamy atmosphere and the refined melody of the song is enriched with the production of DJs Protopapa and Dumar, who give a new look to Arcobaleno between reverbs and dance beats.

MUSIC MUSIC
By: Ornella Vanoni, Maurizio Fabrizio, Sergio Bardotti
Produced by: BRAIL (Jacopo Sinigaglia)

Produced and revisited in a 100% pop dance style by BRAIL, Musica Musica is a cheerful celebration of the versatile and transformative nature of music, a universal language capable of binding souls and emotions, traveling beyond time and space. “Music music // I call you music // but I have many more names in mind // I would like to call you life // but if I'm close to him // I would like to call you flight // I would like to call you us”.

EYE IN EYE
Original title: “Olhos Nos Olhos”
By: Chico Buarque, Sergio Bardotti
Produced by: Bruno Bellissimo

Eyes in the eyes is a song of redemption, of revenge towards those who loved us and then left us, with lyrics full of anger and music with a Brazilian flavour. Ornella and Bruno Bellissimo drag us onto the dance floor, giving us today a version with enveloping Latin pop nuances.

I WHO LOVE ONLY YOU
By: Sergio Endrigo
Produced by: Hey Cabrera! (Gianluca Servetti)

Io che amo solo te – reinterpreted over the years by numerous successful artists, was born in 1962 from the pen of Sergio Endrigo and in 1968 vibrates through the intense interpretation of Ornella. Almost 60 years later, the lady of Italian music offers an engaging, danceable version with contagious dance pop nuances that bear the signature of the DJ and producer Hey Cabrera!.

FOR A FRIEND
By: Ornella Vanoni, Sergio Bardotti, Maurizio Piccoli
Produced by: Sol Novaro (Emanuele Novaro)

For a friend it is a touching story of deep friendship, a bond marked by the passage of time and different life experiences. Re-proposed by Sol Novaro in an interesting 70s funky twist, Per un'amica is a reflection on motherhood, love, loneliness and hope, born during an intimate and silent walk by the sea.

WOMAN'S RECIPE
By: Ornella Vanoni, Sergio Bardotti, Michele Zarrillo, Totò Savio, Amerigo Casella
Produced by: Giordano Colombo

Extracted from the 1980 album of the same name, Ricetta di donna is an ironic recipe book written from the point of view of a man committed to playing with female stereotypes and characteristics, listing all the ingredients that, mixed together, give life to the perfect woman. In Diverse's version, Giordano Colombo and Ornella add a pinch of pounding beat and 70s-80s Italo disco.

A BEAUTIFUL GIRL
By: Gianluca Martinelli, Carlo Fava
Produced by: Marco Maiole

A beautiful girl is a profound reflection on the passing of time and on the life lived that flows between serenity and nostalgia for memories and the past. Excerpt from the 2007 album of the same name, winner of the Lunezia Prize for artistic and literary value, A beautiful girl meets the blues and soft pop production of Marco Maiole.

GO, VALENTINA
By: Ornella Vanoni, Sergio Bardotti, Maurizio Fabrizio
Produced by: Lorenzo Morresi

Among the surprises of the new album is Vai, Valentina: the essence of youth captured in this song, with production by Lorenzo Morresi, travels on a pressing rhythm, vibrating between 100% electro-disco sounds and drum machines.

DETAILS
Original title: “Details”
By: Roberto Carlos Braga, Erasmo Carlos
Produced by: okgiorgio (Giorgio Pesenti) and daniele (Daniele Capoferri)

Closing the official tracklist of this collection of great successes is Details, a song of Brazilian origin included in the 1973 album of the same name. In this new version, which boasts the production of okgiorgio and daniele, the jazz-flavored arrangement and Brazil which accompanies Ornella's whispered voice drags us into this story about the end of a great love, capable of leaving indelible memories and unforgettable details.

I WANT YOU (WITH ELODIE AND DITONELLAPIAGA)
Produced by: Giordano Colombo

Published for the first time in 1977 and has always been an essential piece in Ornella's live repertoire, Ti I Want has also repeatedly conquered the shows of both Elodie and Ditonellapiaga, who have proposed their own very personal version, a tribute to the lady of Italian music. Now Ornella's warm and vibrant timbre is linked to the enveloping and energetic voices of Elodie and Ditonellapiaga, an indelible sign of the mutual esteem and affection between three generations of extraordinary voices. An invitation to love without limits and without fears, I want you (with Elodie and Ditonellapiaga) today meets the production of Giordano Colombo, resonating on a mix of disco-pop sounds and 70s beats.

SANT'ALLEGRIA (JACK SANI REMIX)
Original title: “BEM LEVE”
By: Arnaldo Antunes, Antunes Filho Arnaldo Augusto Nora, Marisa Monte, Carlo Fava, Gianluca Martinelli
Remix by: Jack Sani

Having gone viral on all social media, becoming the soundtrack of last summer, the song Sant'Allegria – originally contained in the 1997 album “Argilla” – was rediscovered and remixed by the Florentine producer and DJ Jack Sani, born Iacopo Sani Melani . Driven by a great sentimental value for the song, Jack Sani decided to give a new afro-deep house look to a title that is now experiencing a second youth.
