Review: MR.RAIN – “Miller’s Planet”

Music news

In Mr. Rain’s imagination, “Miller’s Planet” is a place made up only of water, which has always been the ‘natural’ element of Mattia Balardi (his real name). An inner planet, where the creative essence of the singer lives.

“Miller’s Planet” is precisely this story, a sincere introspection through all the worlds and souls of MR.RAIN. An explicit reference to a reference-quote from the film Interstellar, where MR.RAIN, like the protagonist of the film, travels at a different, slower speed.

Inside the album it is the voice of Francesco Prando, Matthew McConaughey’s voice actor in Interstellar, who tells the concept: the rest of the world goes too fast, changes, evolves, while he fears one day realizing that he has crossed life without enjoying the stages, without having enjoyed every moment.

Leaving aside the conceptuality of the album, the album is almost a greatest hits of his successes of recent years to which a handful of new songs have been added.

In fact, of the twelve tracks, four are super hits starting from the two from Sanremo Superheroes and Two Swingsto these are added The End of the World and One Million Nights.
A skit and an outro and six new songs, one of which Children of the Nighta song dedicated to his fans and sung during his Forum last November.

The lyrical story is that of the soul. Between monsters, nightmares, depression, fears, tears and memories but also excesses of honey, sugary romance, good feelings and positivity.
All accompanied by strictly pop melodies, tinged, in certain passages, with urban nuances.

Mr. Rain’s planet, no more, no less!

TRACK BY TRACK

“MILLER’S PLANET”, unlike previous albums where each song on a musical level was linked by a thread and all belonged to the same world, this is an album where I tried to experiment with different nuances of what I can and what I want to do in my future works.

Songs like SUPERHEROES, TWO SWINGS and PREVIOUS LIVES are more ‘classical’.

THE END OF THE WORLD with Sangiovanni or A MILLION OF NIGHTS with CLARA I consider them ‘hybrids’, that is, I tried to escape from the sounds that are in my heart and so also in IMMORTALS and CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT”.

I think this is my most heterogeneous album on a musical level and where I had the most fun, I rediscovered the curiosity to make music by trying to range between different musical genres. “MILLER’S PLANET” is also my most played project, the instruments are almost all live because I wanted to enhance every single instrument. Some parts I played myself, others the musicians, it was important for me that the warmth of the music came through which I will also carry with me in live performances”.
