Review: MOTTA – “Play! Vol. 1″

Reviews

The statement of this new album by Motta is: a free, psychedelic project, with a punk attitude, in which the live and studio dimensions blend into each other.

Perfect synthesis that exudes from the eight tracks that make up this “Vol. 1″.

It is immediately clear that it is an experimental record that must not submit to the often absurd and unhealthy logic that contaminates the music market. A project created, wanted and above all played, in which Motta wants to bring live music back to a recording studio, and not the other way around.

The basic concept of this “Play! Vol. 1” — and which, given the title, envisages a sequel — is to develop a sound project in which some published songs, which were part of his solo career and with the Criminal Jokers, change shape and dress by modifying arrangements and harmonies.

All inserted within a creative flow whose ultimate goal is to make music for the pleasure of making it, with the same freedom that the artist manages to release on stage during each of his live performances.

Distorted sounds and intertwining genres give life to a record in which everything revolves around the power, passion and often conflicting feelings that the great instrument of music has the ability to exert on every individual.

To make the experiment possible, Motta first of all created his own personal label, “SONA MUSIC RECORDS”, a new label that will take care of some particular projects, which will follow the artist's career in parallel. Secondly, he called upon some of the best musicians of the Italian and international alternative scene: Roberta Sammarelli, Cesare Petulicchio, Giorgio Maria Condemi, Kazu Makino, Teho Teardo and Maria Chiara Argirò.

To close the work, now all we have to do is hear it played… in a live version, its true attitude!
