Review: IMAGINE DRAGONS – “Loom”

Reviews

“LOOM”, the new album by Imagine Dragons starts off well.

Wake Up it's in their style: energy, chorality, rhythm. It gives us hope, as do the two already known singles Nice To Meet Youlight, relaxed, sunny song and Eyes Closed, 100% Imagine extract.

However, problems arise immediately after with the next Take Me To The Beach.
A rather embarrassing song, with holiday village choruses, whistling and a cheap party song rhythm.
With In Your Corner It's not like it gets any better. God's Don't Pray It has a slow and almost reggae retro taste but even this one doesn't fully convince us.

Don't Forget Me it's a ballad that opens up in development, Kid with the powerful bass and Reynolds' distorted voice it sounds more like something from Maneskin to me, while Fire In These Hills it has the sax that sounds eighties and an almost dance drum. Finally Eyes Closed this time with the feat. of J Balvin, it's a new version quite useless.

9 unreleased tracks for less than half an hour of music seems a bit limited to the potential of the Las Vegas band. From a global band like Imagine you always expect the best!

Dan Reynolds commented in an interview

every album for me is a reflection of my life, whatever period I'm going through. This album is about relationships: the end, the beginning, the development of them. That's why we called it LOOM (in Italian “to loom”). If something looms it's not necessarily something negative, it can be a good thing or a bad thing.

The cover illustrates sunrise or sunset, without knowing whether it represents the beginning or the end of something.”

Is it a sunset rather than a sunrise?
