Review: GUE' – “Tropic of Capricorn”

Reviews

That Guè is prolific is a fact. In 2024, despite not releasing a solo album, his presence in the Italian urban and rap scene was constant: between his return with Club Dogo, with a record and tour and the almost infinite presence of feat, he continued to write the script of a career that knows no breaks.

Now, in 2025, Cosimo Fini is preparing to face a new chapter, that of “Tropic of Capricorn”, his tenth musical seal which marks a point of arrival, but also of departure, for his artistic evolution. A perfect synthesis of maturity that still makes him the leader of an increasingly unpredictable scene.

With 15 tracks ranging from literary, cinematographic, cultural and musical quotes, Guè confirms that he is an attentive observer and a contemporary narrator. And to complete the picture, a list of important collaborations: among the protagonists of the new Italian urban scene we find Shiva, Artie 5ive, Ele A but also the tribute to Pino Daniele with the sample of What a satisfaction, that embellishes the irresistible Oh Mamma Mia (feat. Rose Villain). And then there is Wonderfulwith the quote from Water and Soap of Stadio, which confirms its indissoluble bond with the Italian musical tradition.

On the production front, Guè continues to fly high. With beats curated by Sixpm, Chef P (already known as Pietrino of 2nd Roof), Big Fish (for the track Meravigliosa), Bassi Maestro and the American giant Harry Fraud (on Pain Is Love), the album makes use of sounds that they range from old school to innovation, outlining the contours of an urban without borders.

Guè has never been just a rapper. He has always been a stylist, capable of evolving while remaining extremely true to himself.

And once again, with “Tropic of Capricorn”, he traces the new boundary of the urban, imposing himself as the guardian of a style that mixes current affairs, lyricism, excess, stylistic features of the genre and street culture.

“Tropic of Capricorn” is not just a record, it is a declaration of intent. Guè continues to write the history of Italian rap, without frills, without giving in to conformism, yet always capable of surprising. There is no limit to what it can do.

TRACK BY TRACK

Oh Mamma Mia (feat. Rose Villain)

Guè opens the album with a tribute to Pino Daniele, thanks to the sample of Che satisfaction. The classic melody is transported into modernity, creating a song that combines nostalgia and innovation. The feat. with Rose Villain gives a unique touch to the track.

Vibe and From 0 to 100 (feat. Shiva)

A dive into the 80s, with sounds that mark the return of contemporary black music. Guè and Shiva give life to two tracks that mix synths and groove, recalling the dance atmosphere of that period, with an urban and contemporary touch.

Meravigliosa (feat. Stadio)

It is one of the most anticipated songs. I wanted to see how Guè would face such a sought-after champion like Acqua e Sapone degli Stadio. In the end, Guè managed to bring the song into his world without ruining it, altering it or making it seem out of place.

Akrapovič (feat. Artie 5ive)

By playing on the power of engines, Guè draws a parallel with the power of rap. The track is intense, fast, and sharp, with Artie 5ive fitting into the mood perfectly, adding energy and drive.

Gazelle (feat. Ele A)

A nostalgic parenthesis that references the streetwear culture of the 90s. With direct language and iconic references, Guè celebrates an era that marked his artistic growth, while Ele A contributes a unique touch.

In your skinny (feat. Frah Quintale)

In this track, Guè recovers the origins of Jamaican dancehall, mixing them with Italian urban. The collaboration with Frah Quintale offers a perfect fusion between different styles, with a beat that pushes and drags.

The G the U the E pt. 3

One of the sagas most loved by Guè fans, La G la U la E reaches its third chapter. The track harks back to the artist's roots, while evolving into new territory. A return that feels like home for his fans, with a flow that tells of the continuity of a journey.

The Girls

Maybe a filler song but in perfect Guè style.

Pain Is Love and Movie (feat. Geolier)

Guè offers two of the most reflective moments of the album. Pain Is Love is an emotional track that explores themes of suffering and resilience, while Movie is a reflection on life as a star, with Geolier bringing a younger and fresher touch to the track.

Kalispera (feat. Ghali and Tony Effe)

In this track, Guè explores the meeting between different styles and languages, creating an unexpected but perfectly successful mixture. Ghali and Tony Effe add their energy, giving life to a song that challenges the boundaries of Italian rap.

Nei DM (feat. Ernia and Tormento)

West Coast atmospheres characterize this song, with a return to the rap scene that influenced Guè and Tormento. Ernia adds his mark, creating a powerful mix that brings to mind Californian sounds, reworked and adapted to the Italian scene.

Non lo so (feat. Chiello)

One of the most intimate songs on the album. Guè lays himself bare and faces doubts and uncertainties, supported by the collaboration with Chiello. The piece is delicate, but powerful, and tells of the artist's vulnerability, far from the tough guy facade.

Astronaut

The album ends with Astronauta, a track that expresses Guè's more introspective and visionary side. The song addresses themes of loneliness and inner research, with a depth that leaves its mark.
