The BNKR44 try, with the sincerity of those who have not yet chosen whether to grow or remain elsewhere.
“Touching the sky” is an ambitious album also in minutage. Seventeen songs for 52 minutes are many, perhaps too many, too much meat on the fire, even if five are the songs already published and known.
The Tuscan collective-now stable name in the new Italian pop-lines a collection of songs which, more than a concept, seem to be a collection of emotional screenshots: intermittent frames of a generation perpetually in the balance between hyper-concession and loss. The gen Z is the protagonist and recipient: anxious, idealist, hyper-Lucid and contradictory. In their writing an expressive urgency does not always emerge, but viscerally honest.
Songs like masterpiece and Spa Cabaret manage to crystallize this tension. The first, with its emotional climax and the production edited by Colombre, Erin and JXN, tells us that perhaps the masterpiece is not a disc, but a non -lost call. The second, already radio catchphrase, plays on more light -hearted registers but remains in the limbo between the party and the escape.
The collaborations (Tedua, Emma Nolde, 18k, Ele a and the historical one with the late Pino d'Angiò) add color and are perhaps the best moments of the composition.
There is freshness, but also dispersion. There is a heart, but also indecision. The disc works at times: when it lowers the voice and speaks softly, rather than when trying to impose itself at all costs.
“Touching the sky” is a sound diary of those who started to look for something and, in the journey, discovered that the finish line is more complicated than it imagined. It is an honest work, at times fragile, who lives on his impulses but suffers the lack of a truly unitary breath.
A necessary step, perhaps also of transition, which returns the most faithful image possible of a generation that wonders without demanding answers.
Not a masterpiece, but a mirror: crooked, colorful and therefore deeply human.
