Everything Ye produces is complicated, byzantine, convoluted, labyrinthine and full of quite unnecessary complexities.
“Vultures 1”, his new album released together with Ty Dolla $ign, does not deviate from his dispersive, almost boring and annoying attitude.
An album that was actually supposed to be released in October, do you remember the pantomime staged in Reggio Emilia? From there to today, a bit of everything and more has happened.
Perhaps the wisest thing to do is to draw a line and start from scratch, clear of the controversies, absurd proclamations and imperial bullshit expressed by a now out of control Kanye, and stop at the music and listen to the album without many preconceptions.
Sixteen chaotic, rough, bizarre but also powerful, solid and enveloping tracks with continuous changes of rhythm, different nuances and beats that bring Kanye or Ye and Ty Dolla back to flying high with their unapologetic rap.
As for the lyrics, a nice salad of themes: introspective themes such as relationships, sex, family, acceptance, fame and even some banal passages here and there.
Among the feat. Lil Durk, Bump J, Freddie Gibbs, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, Quavo and West’s eldest daughter, North.
Let’s be honest: this is Kanye’s album with Ty Dolla $ign, not a collaborative album. Kanye defines, manages and punctuates everything.
Crazy or genius, this is a good hip hop album, well structured with limitations but also many advantages.
One of Kanye’s best albums of recent years.
