Peter Murphy and Boy George announce duet

Music news

Bauhaus and Culture Club singers Peter Murphy and Boy George share a unique collaboration, β€œ Let the Flowers Grow “.

Two musical giants of the 1980s have joined forces: Bauhaus' Peter Murphy and Culture Club's Boy George have shared their new collaboration, “ Let the Flowers Grow “.

Youth, of Killing Joke, is on guitar and production on this single which features two singers with distinctive voices singing with each other. In a statement to WECBPeter Murphy opened up about his decades-long relationship with Boy George and their desire to collaborate together: β€œ I first met Boy George when he asked to meet Howard Devoto backstage while Bauhaus opened for Magazine. He struck me as a super original 17th century dandy. The second time I met him was when we went to the BBC to perform β€œZiggy Stardust” on the show Top of the Pops, where Culture Club also made its debut. He welcomed me very warmly and I discovered that he was a fan of Bauhaus. Β»

The two men continued to cross paths over the following decades, and their plan to record together resulted in β€œ Let the Flowers Grow “.

β€œ Twenty years later, in Spain, I recorded my new album with Youthsays Murphy. During a break, I heard a piece of music coming from Youth's phone. This track caught my attention with its melodic beauty and Roy Orbison-like vocals. I asked Youth what it was and he said it was an unfinished demo of a song Boy George had written with him. It only had one verse and one chorus. I asked Youth to prepare it for me to sing and finish what was missing: the first verse, the third verse and the harmonizing with Boy George on the choruses. In 20 minutes we finished.”flowers…” and we played it for Boy George, who wasn’t expecting it. He loved it and I'm very happy with it “.

β€œ When I heard the mix, I was delighted in every waysays Boy George. I've always loved Pete's voice and his writing adds a beautiful darkness. With everything going on in the world around identity issues, this is very powerful. The production is epic, like Scott Walker's. It makes me dizzy and makes me proud. Β»

Murphy's latest solo album, Lionwas released in 2014. George was a little more active: he released the single β€œ Electric Energy Β» alongside Nile Rodgers and Ariana DeBose this year.
