Pavement Announces Unique Concert in New York

Music news

Pavement will play Sony Hall next month ahead of the premiere of a film about the band directed by Alex Ross Perry.

For one night only, Pavement will reunite to light up New York City one last time (or almost?) next month. The band will perform a one-off concert at Sony Hall on October 1st to celebrate the release of filmmaker Alex Ross Perry's new film, Pavement(s)which will premiere the following day at the New York Film Festival.

Tickets go on sale Friday, with the Alex Ross Perry film set to hit theaters in the spring.

Ultimately, he explained that the film would be both a biopic and a tour documentary, and that everyone was on board with that. The film ” Pavement's hagiography is not something the band would enjoy participating in, nor would I enjoy directing it.Perry told WECB in 2022. But conceptualizing this notion and creating a film in a world where Pavement's hagiography is a given was, to reference the staging of the museum and the musical, a way of having my cake and inviting thousands of others to eat it. »

Pavement, the band, has been the subject of intense attention in recent years. After a reunion tour in 2009 and 2010, the band (Malkmus, Mark Ibold, Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg, Bob Nastanovich, and Steve West) has reunited for more shows in 2022, 2023, and a few this year. The Matador label is billing the one-off concert as “ one last chance to see America's most beloved rock & roll band before they take a well-deserved indefinite hiatus. »
