The documentary “Notes from India, traveling with Niccolò Fabi” is online from today, Tuesday 24 December, on YouTube.
The project, created by Alessandro De Masi, at the time Consul General of Italy in Mumbai, was born on the occasion of the concert held by Niccolò Fabi on 15 December 2023 in the prestigious Royal Opera House in Mumbai, an event promoted by the Consulate General of Italy and by the Italian Cultural Institute of Mumbai.
Niccolò Fabi tells the meaning of this project with these words:
A year ago, with the then Italian consul in Mumbai Alessandro De Masi, we organized a trip to India which included visits to virtuous Italian realities in the poorest areas of Mumbai, a few days in that timeless place that is Varanasi, for conclude with a concert together with Roberto Angelini and Pier Cortese at the Royal Opera House in Mumbai.
A way to bring diplomacy and music together, trying to export a bit of our culture and our attention to realities far from us.»
The documentary presents itself as an invitation to discovery, a bridge between cultures, a journey that combines spirituality and everyday life.
Poised between Vanzina's Christmas in India and Shantaram, we would simply like it to be an invitation to travel for everyone, especially for those lucky enough to be able to afford it. Best wishes to all of us”, concludes the singer-songwriter.
For Niccolò Fabi, the trip to India was not just a return to a country he already knew, but an enriching experience:
I saw an India that runs fast but deeply steeped in its roots. A country where every value merges with its opposite: the mystical sound of temple bells together with the incessant horns, the sacred with the profane, life with death, spirituality with materialism.»
