British singer-songwriter, record producer and composer Mark Knopfler will release his tenth solo studio album on April 12, 2024 with his own label, British Grove.
The new work, which will be titled One Deep Rivercontains 12 new themesall of them composed by Knopfler, in which he reflects his poetic narrative and his melodic ability on the guitar, as present and dazzling as always.
The album, produced by the artist himself and his long-time collaborator Guy Fletcherhas been recorded in their modern studio in west London, British Grove. One Deep River offers an unstoppable flow of future Knopfler classics, with his usual cultured and refined lyrics and guitar textures. They draw on a lifetime of ingredients and influences that cross genres, with blues, folk, and rock elements.
Knopfler has brought together a group of great musicians, in fact, he has been collaborating with some of them for several years. Thus, the band is made up of Mark Knopfler on the guitar, Jim Cox and Guy Fletcher to keyboards, Glenn Worf To the bass, Ian Thomas to the battery and Danny Cummings to percussion, Richard Bennett on the guitar, and the newcomer Greg Leisz electric guitar with pedals and lap steel; Mike McGoldrick to the Irish whistle and bagpipes and John McCusker on the violin, while the Topolski sisters, Emma and Tamsin they do the choirs.
The album will be available on CD, double gatefold vinyl, cassette and a special limited edition box set that will include the album on vinyl and CD, 9 exclusive bonus tracks, on LP and CD, plus a lithograph and a set of Mark’s picks.
The 74-year-old musician has shared the first album preview, the single Ahead Of The Gamea melancholic, perhaps autobiographical story about a struggling singer-songwriter, with a characteristically Knopfleresque classic riff.
Mark Knopfler is Considered one of the best guitarists of all time. He rose to fame in the 80s as the leader of Dire Straits and created many of the emblematic songs of the time such as Money For Nothing, Sultans Of Swing, Romeo And Juliet either Walk Of Life. In 1995, Knopfler dissolved the band and embarked on a new solo path.
