I DON’T RECOGNIZE MYSELF ≠ is the title of the new single by MACE with SALMO and centomilacarie, out on Friday 23 February.
After the success of “OBE” (READ THE REVIEW), preceded by the triumph of the single “La Canzone Nostra” with SALMO and BLANCO, which has become a cult piece on the Italian music scene, the visionary producer returns with a track that brings together the voices of one of the heavyweights of the national scene, SALMO, and of centomilacarie, a young talent who stood out for his writing with overwhelming emotion.
In “I DON’T RECOGNIZE ME ≠ ” MACE once again confirms his unpredictability and ability to find a spontaneous balance in the unprecedented juxtaposition of apparently distant voices, generations and imaginaries.
SALMO and centomilacarie deal with universal themes in the song, from the search for one’s identity to the clash with one’s inner monsters, placing themselves at the service of the extremely multifaceted artistic vision of the producer, a prism in which the musical references – coming from a multitude of worlds – they communicate with visual, sensorial and spiritual explorations, elements at the foundations of his aesthetics.
I discovered centomilacarie almost by chance and his voice immediately hit me like a punch in the stomach.
I have always been very attentive to new artists and I like having the possibility of being able to combine them in my songs with already established names, in this case with a legend like SALMO: I believe that both share the right combination of dirty timbre, expressiveness and powerful words, therefore the ability to create “visceral” music, a characteristic that I feel is fundamental in this phase of my journey.
The production follows the footprints of a transformative song, a track that continues to evolve: it opens with the bare chords of a piano, gets dirty with the scratchy and deeply evocative feedback of a guitar, acquires tension and energy with a pressing bass line – played by the same PSALM-. In the minimal sounds chosen by MACE, reduced to the bare bones to give light to the vocal timbre which becomes an instrument in all respects, the two different stories and intensities of the artists reverberate.
THE LIVE
On October 18, 2024 Mace will hold his first concert at the Forum in Milan: an out-of-body experience that will take the spectator on a journey through OBE, BEYOND and his next album.
Accompanying Mace on this journey will be musicians, visual artists and various guests who will take turns on stage to transport the audience on a multi-sensory itinerary.
