It's hard to miss the Teddy Swims phenomenon. A little over a year ago, this soulful artist rose to the top of the charts with his track “Lose Control”. A piece certified diamond last May, after having exceeded 50 million streams. With “Lose Control”, the American singer even entered the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 ranking.I am very grateful to this person (who broke my heart)“, he told the media Billboard, referring to the origin of this title.

To compose this piece, Teddy Swims drew his inspiration from a painful period in his life, marked by a toxic relationship and a drug addiction. “I was in a relationship where the substance of the bonds was somehow related to the substances we were consuming at the time, if that makes sensehe confided to Modzik. We were dependent on each other. Sometimes we can love someone but not work together. We must then realize that the best thing for both of us is to get out of this situation, to heal and to move on.

From the first words of his song, this dark episode in his life is felt: “Something's got a hold of me lately/ No, I don't recognize myself anymore / It's like all the walls are closing in / And the devil came knocking at my door” are the first lyrics translated into French from “Lose Control”.

Song as healing

The singer thus revealed his vulnerability and captured his emotions to transcribe them in his poignant text. Putting words to the situation he suffered allowed Teddy Swims to heal his wounds. “The song itself was an incredibly healing experience for me” he said.
