Karol G’s most emotional and empowering speech upon receiving the Billboard Woman of the Year Award

Music news

2024 is being a year full of emotions for Karol G. The soloist has seen her career recognized thanks to the great work she did with Tomorrow will be beautiful and at each award ceremony she is receiving the applause that she has always deserved. The American market has been the last to surrender to her talent this year. First were the Grammy and now you just received the Woman of the Year from the popular Billboard Women in Music Awards.

The Colombian looked spectacular at the delivery ceremony celebration which was later broadcast through the official channels of the American channel. There, in addition to shining with her own light, she launched an excited and empowering message for all artists who are starting out or who at some point may have some doubt about where their career is headed.

“For many years, I was disappointed in the fact of being a woman, I found myself along the way with so much rejection and so many lost opportunities for that reason that I wondered why I had not been born a man to exploit all this love, this desire and the passion that he felt for music” began, assuring that of Medellín.

And in this one Women’s Day Karol G wanted to vindicate even more the talent and tenacity of women, always tested and always overcoming obstacles: “I decided that I was going to continue making music even if it was only for myself, I deciphered that if my environment did not change, suddenly I was the one who “I had to change, and I was the one who was going to do it, and I was not going to allow being a woman to be an obstacle or define my capabilities, but rather it was going to be my strength, my motive and my reason.”

Hard work in a society that is still predominantly sexist but in the music industry it was even worse for many years and in the highest spheres (just look at the thousands of cases that arose from #MeToo). In all that time he has not stopped taking steps forward until today.

“Now I look back at all the time it has taken me to be here, 16 years, and I feel very at peace with myself because I followed my heart. Follow your heart,” La Bichota said to applause to conclude an exciting speech that has already been left for posterity for the stage, the day and the importance of the awards it received in a market as competitive as the American one.

And there was a representation of the best of female music in 2023 and 2024: from Young Miko to Katy Perry, passing through Annalisa or Ice Spice. Without a doubt, the YouTube theater in Los Angeles has become one of the places with the most musical talent in the world.
