Jonathan Bree releases the video for “Steel and Glass”

Music news

A video that helps us find our complement.

Jonathan Bree is one of New Zealand’s most prolific artists, he has taken an interesting journey throughout his career playing with identity and performance styles under a ‘faceless’ mask and intense, string-heavy melodies.

Last year he gave us Pre-Code Hollywood, an album under the influence of the characteristic sounds of the 80s, romantic and full of strings. Throughout these months she has shared great videos with retro aesthetics such as “You Are The Man”, “Pre-Code Hollywood” and “TE Echo de menos” In collaboration with Princess Chelsea and Nile Rodgers.

But today is the time “Steel and Glass”, a song that at first conveys a feeling of loneliness, but as you wander through the city you find what you need, and maybe it’s just someone who sings you a lullaby at night.

The video was shared through his label Lil’ Chief Records this Wednesday morning. A visual with black and white tones, which at first is shown Bree wandering alone through the city, he finds himself looking for something but he doesn’t know what; until he appears next to a person who complements him, where he completely changes the image of his face and shows comfort. But maybe this is just a dream…

Jonathan Bree He is an exceptional song maker and this material is some of the most accomplished of his career. You get the distinct impression that this song may be more autobiographical than he would like to admit, and the heartbreak sounds very close to the bones. Or maybe that’s just part of the act.
