Between the North and the South: A sound journey of identity and evolution.
A peculiar voice emerges from the north of the country to take on the world and fill every corner of the universe with sweetening music with its neo trova. Victor Rosasbetter known as Roses is a dazzling singer-songwriter, musician and actor from Sinaloa, currently living with his melodies in the chaotic Mexico City.
After debuting his recent album Saint or Remedy In Argentina, their amazing sound continues its experimental journey loaded with folkloric elements, trip hop and neo bossa. This album represents his most dynamic and versatile side within a performance as liberating as it is emotional, a window into the intimate space of Roses.
With his authentic style, which characterizes him, and his joy in sharing his creative process, Roses He began talking about how electronics were very present in his work, as something new where he worked on production from scratch, exploring different bases with beats experimental electronics.
There is only one song, 'Tiempo al tiempo', which is the heart of the album. The following songs navigate between trip hop, techno and r&b, with hints (from what Rosas baptizes it) hyper pop; I consider it a very experimental album.”
Artistic growth also entails the outcome of personal experiences and learning along the way. “In the end, I'm looking for my own sound in other genres. Personally, I consider that leaving my comfort zone is a transformation, searching for my style within the project and exploring other paths, maintaining my essence through my way of singing and writing, but opening myself to new soundscapes. And it is in the interludes where I wanted to evoke the sea and nature, dressed in folk instruments. That part is not a farewell to neo trova, since that is my base, but I do seek to start from there towards a bold evolution, to“getting more into an urban vibe, releasing a more adventurous and playful part of the music,” he added.
Far from home, with suitcases full of hopes and dreams, of new paths to discover, the lyrics of Roses They take us on this nostalgic voyage. “More than 10 years ago I left Culiacán, oscillating between Tijuana and Guadalajara. My imagination has a lot to do with the context of the north, the border and even narcoculture. I feel that, when I came to live in Guadalajara, I got to know the center of the country better. This encounter with non-northern Mexico has been part of the process of Rosesof growth, with new scenarios presenting themselves before me, with large buildings and gigantic historical centers. 'Temples'has a lot to do with this, with my new city, compared to others in the center of the Republic. I found that surreal Mexico, with much more history. The mood changes a lot; There we are very stuck. Here, despite the chaos, the humor and warmth of the people of CDMX are different. Obviously, it has influenced my way of seeing things and writing.”
The Mexican identity in the project of Rosesreflected in its plurality, goes beyond being represented only by its last name. This word gave Victor an identity of companionship; He was no longer alone with his guitar, but now he represented himself with the idea of Roses as a poetic figure, giving the project a very mexathe result of the amalgamation of the two worlds, which are undoubtedly related to his imagination.
This play of identities and contrasts is not only reflected in his music, but also in his creative process and in the way he captures his thoughts and emotions in his lyrics. For Roseswriting is a way to navigate between the personal and the collective, to explore your environment and your roots while opening yourself to new influences. When talking about how he constructs his lyrics, he reveals the importance of capturing fleeting moments and turning them into stories loaded with symbolism, inviting the listener on an introspective journey full of evocative images.
“For me, the importance and weight of the project lies in the lyrics and what I am expressing. It is crucial for me to leave a message, to raise awareness, through music. That's what I would like people to take away. Saint or Remedy: to keep them thinking, to question themselves and to get excited. Now that I am exploring different genres, I feel that it continues to be a melancholic project, with the intention of looking inward, of creating music to feel and raise awareness.”
Music has infinite durability, and Roses elevates her by turning her emotions into something eternal through each track of Saint or Remedy. These songs, which will soon be enriched with the collaboration of musicians in the assembly process, will reach stages in captive cities such as Colima, Tijuana, Guadalajara and CDMX.
“We want the dates to be an opportunity for the public to enjoy both the songs from the new album and the classic Rosas songs, with a nod to the most essential songs from the past, such as 'Aguacero',” he confirmed.
While working on a new EP, the vision of Victor is to bring their music to other nearby cities, to new stages, maintaining the essence of their live performances, which always offer something new. “On stage everything changes, because the songs are recorded and then rediscovered. “I like to improvise and do something more performative,” he commented, excitedly anticipating his next meeting with the public at a tour possibly called The Remedies.
At every step of his career, Roses has immersed himself in a process of self-discovery and musical evolution that reflects the richness of his personal and cultural history. His music, full of deep feelings and experimental sounds, not only invites us to listen, but to feel, to question ourselves and connect with what surrounds us. Through his project, he has managed to transform his experiences into something universal, touching the chord of those who dare to accompany him on this sonic journey. With his sights set on the future, he continues to explore new horizons, always faithful to his essence, but open to the infinite possibilities that music offers to heal, inspire and transform.
