Interview with Nouvelle Vague

Interviews

The magic of discovering new (old) music.

On the occasion of his next visit to Mexico and his presentation at the Indie Rocks forum! We chat with Marc Collinof Nouvelle vagueFrench duo with 20 years of experience in recreating Hits To Bossa Nova. “It was a big surprise for me the first time I came to Mexico to see that all those post punk bands were very famous. You already know, Morrissey, The Cure. So when we played it was incredible. ”

Nouvelle vague It moves in a very specific musical space, the 70s and 80s. The reason? Work with what is known and what you love. “There is no plan. I only remember the songs that I love when I was young in the 80s and when I hear them many times I can reimagine them. Sometimes it is simple, because it is like having 10 years of notes on them. Sometimes everything is about the lyrics, sometimes I can think of the history of the bands. And it's a matter of trying, sometimes it works no longer. ”

One would think it is unimaginable that someone does not know “Shout” of Tears For Fears either “Love Will Tear Us Apart” of Joy Division. But that's what it is about Nouvelle vagueto share music, to take it further.

I remember working at the beginning with Cami, a great singer, who told me 'But I don't know The Clash, I haven't heard Depeche Mode'. She listened more soul and that kind of genres. And that was very good, because I had no preconceptions of how it would have to sound. I wouldn't try to copy the original. ”

“Discovering new music is something magical, it unites you to people. Now with the internet it is easier, but when I was young at school, I thought we were like five people listening to Joy Division. But when they played in Paris, I saw that they were more than popular when playing for more than 15 thousand people. One thinks that he is only listening to this music of certain bands, and then you feel in community. And then you go and recommend it and attract someone else. ”

Nouvelle vague will be presented on February 8 at the Indie Rocks forum!. “This time will accompany us Shanice and Marine Alonia. We will play half of the new album and half of the first. So everyone will be happy. ”
