A retro-futuristic journey under the cloak of folk with the intensity of psychedelia.
From the depths of the Swedish psychedelic scene emerges Melody Fieldsa band that fuses the delicacy of folk with the intensity of psychedelic rock. This year, they are preparing to dazzle at the Hypnosis Festivalbringing their unmistakable mix of nostalgic melodies and vibrant noise to an audience eager to immerse themselves in their sonic universe.
In this interview, we go inside the creative minds of Ramo Spatalovic and Henrik Bäckströmwho give us a sneak peek of what their upcoming performance will be like on November 2nd. Although they themselves describe it as “slow”, they promise an epic celebration of retro-futuristic sounds that will leave its mark.
With influences ranging from the raw energy of Spacemen 3 to the melodic subtlety of The Byrds, Melody Fields has forged a unique sound that connects with both those nostalgic for 60s and 80s rock and contemporary explorers.
“I think our sound is very guitar-driven. That’s the main element, we make all our music with guitars, but we also like to experiment with synthesizers. We like guitars, synthesizers and actually vocal harmonies. That’s quite important to us,” Ramo revealed.
“From the beginning, and especially Spacemen 3We love them, we love that kind of stuff, you know, guitar noise, British stuff, like The Jesus and Mary Chain, things like that too, you know? Moon Duo Also, yeah, they're bands that everyone in the band likes. But when it comes to the synth part, I guess, or the chord part, we used to focus mainly on NEW!the old band from Düsseldorf.”
“It's so boring to talk about NEW! because everyone is talking about NEW!but really nobody knows anything about NEW! except Klaus Dingerthe drummer, who was a big influence. We also did a cover of one of his songs on one of the records we just released. 'May Day' It is a version of Klaus Dinger”.
Henrik Add another layer to this mix by mentioning The Doors and garage bands revival of the 80s as a fundamental part of his inspiration.
“There are a lot of influences, for sure. There are a lot of the 80s bands you mentioned Bouquet and also many bands from the 60s like Love with Arthur Lee and The Byrds, and for me personally, The Doors”.
There's definitely a lot of influence from different decades, especially the late 60s and mid 80s. I think yes, there's something about that kind of music that changed. Like in the 60s, it first appeared, and in the 80s it changed, and you also have all these bands from revival garage. I guess Spacemen 3 is one of those bands, but they have their own sound and they're not just going back to the 60s completely. They add something else to it. So yeah, I agree. It's just riffs distorted guitar tones, something different. It's a lot of noise and a lot of feedbackand they do their thing. So it’s a big influence on me, especially with the stuff that you’re saying, but they also have great vocal melodies. They’re not just making noise. They have melodies, vocal melodies that are interesting.”
The excitement of playing in Mexico is felt in every word of Bouquet and Henrik. A presentation that will exceed the expectations of all attendees.
“We haven’t planned anything special. I mean, we’re so excited and happy to go to Mexico, it’s more like a dream come true. We’re just going to do our best to give them a great time.” show. And if there is a surprise or not, I don't know, I'm not sure. There are going to be a lot of songs,” he added. Bouquet to the conversation.
There will be many songs from our album 1901 that we released last year and some songs from the album 1991 Also, and we're going to play a couple of songs from the EP Broken Horse. Then we have a special surprise because we are going to play two songs that we haven’t released yet. So yeah, a special surprise for you guys,” Henrik revealed.
With the sound textures and melodic lyrics, Melody Fields It is an act that, for the members, will be enjoyed more at night, that perfect moment where their sound can completely envelop you, taking you on a sonic journey that, although slow, is deeply hypnotic.
“We'll see. The thing is, in my opinion, I think we're a boring band. Because we're not that fast, we're not like an action band, we're kind of slow, but we also have some cool songs. uptempo. But we are usually like a big kick in the night. We need to have that exact, perfect moment in the night,” he concluded. Bouquet.
As the band prepares for their first foray into Mexico within the Hypnosis Festivalit is evident that their focus on atmosphere, experimentation and authenticity will deliver an unrivalled sonic experience.
