Interview with Hinds

Interviews

A friendly reunion that feels like a debut album.

Four years after the launch of The Prettiest Cursethe Spanish band Hinds returns this 2024 with his fourth album Long live Hinds. Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrotenow a band of only two people, found in Long live Hinds a motto of identity and strength, the celebration of making a new album and learning to have blind faith in themselves.

It's fair and poetic because it's always been the two of us who started the band. It was kind of a debut album.”

The fourth album shows their vulnerability in the lyrics, but also indicates aggressiveness in the sounds, as they discovered new pedals that introduced them to different guitars and they took inspiration from the unbridled nature of other musical duos.

“Ratatat was one of our influences. We like the guitar as the protagonist even though the keys are also quite present. We wanted the guitars to take care of the emotion of the whole album, the drums to take the power and the voice to transmit the intimacy and rawness.”

Long live Hinds It pushed them to explore their creative process in the studio with other musicians, Beck and Grian Chattenvocalist of DC Fountains The topics “Boom Boom Back” and “Stranger” They gave them another perspective of what it means to record in the studio, but also to be open to the unexpected.

“With Beck we learned not to be self-conscious or shy, and with Grian it was more about being patient with him and trusting the universe. We had to improvise, re-record everything and restructure the song.”

Songs like “Hi, How Are You” and “Coffee” were complex in production and composition, but Long live Hinds It is the first album in which they integrate melodies completely in Spanish, something that gives them a lot of excitement in terms of exploration and playing live.

The origin was a bit unintentional and deep down they fit in as if they were simply asking us to be on the album; as if they were telling us 'Don't give it another thought, don't be embarrassed to sing in Spanish'.

For Hindsthere is no bigger goal in their career than to see themselves playing together in the next 10 years, although making music right now is more than a dream. For the moment, opening their tour in the Indie Rocks! Forum It is the next desire during this new phase as a band.

I hope for heaven and I won't settle for anything less. We have a huge desire to go. Every time we go to Mexico, they treat us with great affection, they are the best. They hold us in high regard and it is reciprocal. We are excited because it is like seeing an old friend.”
