Polarity and transparency: DAY It reaches the stage.

Ela minus He visited Mexico City on March 27 as part of the tour of DAYits most recent study material. This second album became a creative catharsis for the producer, a reflection of the nomadic nature of her lyrics and the strength of experimentation, all the result of a conscious process of musical composition. With a precise sound design, the mixture of house, techno and experimental pop, brought to us a job that the Colombian artist is proud. To talk to us more about DAY And the community act to take it to the stage, we talked with Ela minus. Here is everything he told us.

The album itself feels like the pages of a newspaper, it is an intimate and personal work, which we can access through our own experiences, however, it is an introspective project. “There was a lot DAY. I took the time to reach something different, that it was felt that time had passed, something organic, evolutionary, just because of trying to be better, ”said the artist.

To reach the connection point that we find in their songs, in addition, imposed new obstacles and difficulties for its production. Ela minus He was in constant moving, climate changes, room, language, all to create a new musical path. “It was a challenge the whole process, but a very fast challenge. Previously I did it in my own studio, alone at home, this time I had no house, I had to put together a mini portable study. I rented many Airbnbmany different studies, this was its production. I felt that as a producer I needed my own SYNTHESmy own study, many things to produce well, but I realized very quickly that I don't, that I can produce any study on my computer, ”he explained.

Especially, we find a creative mind in point of expansion, something that arises from inside and arduous work. As the producer explains. “It was a lot of confidence in myself, it was to be freer when producing. I experienced more because I felt freer, that had no limits, that made production reach another level of experimentation. I realized that I had everything inside, I just had to try to do it. I wanted to be a better engineer, better vocal producer, so I began to do it.”

As previously pointed out, the composer was in motion, acquiring new experiences around the continents to paint the songs of DAY, A journey that polarized all the pieces of the album. “Every song changed, at least the soul of the songs, they have the soul where they were made. Of 'Onwards' to 'Upwards'for example, they have the same place in common, 'Broken' It is of a completely different country, 'Open Montes' Another different. The place stayed in the songs, from a lyrical point of view, there is the feeling of hurrying, because it had time limits in the studio, I was so aware of the time that it became the concept of the album, ”he added Ela minus.

Lyrically I had to look inside because everything was changing all the time, ”he said.

It was the moving and the limit dates that paid the rhythm of this album, not only the technique behind itself, also in its nucleus, in the depth after each Track “The limits of time made extremely precise production, very different from Acts of Rebellionthere were many limiting, although, ironically, it sounds contrary to the final result, “he explained.” It is a dense album, loaded with things and, at the same time, light. Connect with something very personal, I have seen it with the people I work, connect with something too personal. That is why it was important to listen to it alone, it is so intense and fast, that it becomes intimate. Being with other people is a very different experience. That is why I would also like them to listen more than once, one in which you connect personally and, already with that connection, listen to it in community. ”

Thanks to the details of its production, to the conscious act of creating the clear indications to listen to the album, we arrive at the sound kaleidoscope of DAY. A vision that is transformed through different eyes. Now, we were fortunate to listen to it live in the Puebla Forum, The opportunity to expand our individual perspective towards a community act. About the above, the artist shared her thoughts after taking this new album to the stage.

“It has been very interesting (seeing it on stage), although it is not a good enough word, it has been crazy, rather. On stage there are a couple of things that make you know very fast if the concert is going well or not, that people are dancing, for example, it is something you easily recognize. So you know if the world is connected, if they are having a good time, the clear physical reactions from the stage. But, with DAY, It is a duality, there is no solidification in the public, half is still looking at me with attention, completely connected to me, at times crying, while the other half is dancing and screaming. A duality to the extreme. I did not expect that, that's why it has been so surreal, I know that this is the album I made, but I am questioning its sending. I seemed pretty that transparency, the multiple reactions of people. ”

I am in the middle of all, my project from day one has been live, it is its spine. What I wanted when I started was to be a living electronic music, not a DJ, I wanted to show what is live electronic music, ”he concluded.

Finally, the Colombian creator has taken us by the hand behind the scenes, on a detailed trip behind this album. A mirror of its maturity as an artist, producer, engineer and as a live act, the heart of Ela minus. “When I started there were few live Acts Like me, that has been an important part of me. I know what it is to play live because I come from jazz, because I come from playing drums, (Acts of Rebellion) I changed that perspective. I am proud of what it is DAY, Concerts are a special moment of expansion, of community, although this new album is also for oneself, ”he concluded.
