What was that person's soul like?
“There is so much power in learning someone’s name. Just the name, a picture, and a story. Knowing what they liked to do in life. That’s who they were… and some of that is in me, too.”
Angelica Garcia She was facing several challenges that led her to feel drawn to the past, to know what things that overwhelmed her were unique to her and what were ancestral. She found, among other things, that mariachi is a family legacy and that the music that was left in other generations could see the light through her. Several spiritual experiences at this stage inspired and transformed her Twintheir new album.
“'Juanita', for example. I didn't know that I had a great-grandmother named Juanita. And one day who was learning people's names and putting them on a wall just to being able to see them, like when you walk into a room and you see everyone sitting there, the song just came out. And It was crazy because there are songs that take years to come out, it really takes months to come out. just one thing. And this time it only came out, in Spanish, Juanita. And then I was with my mom and I says 'Oh right, your great-grandmother: mom Joanwe told him Juanita' and I was left with 'que?'. I just thought 'wow“I really wanted a song.”
Then he showed me his shirt, which had a print from a photo of his grandfather and some uncles. All with musical talent and great storytellers.
I don't know much about them yet, but I They have left a lot over time. It's in my blood.”
This whole stage has made her more observant and she has managed to distinguish between anxiety and wisdom, things that are sometimes confused, because they can feel like just a hole in the stomach. “There was one time, that… I don't know what happened but I was asleep and I I got up very quickly. I sat on the bed and all I heard was a very clear message: 'Don't hit the People, your power, your power cannot be taken away from you, it can only be taken away when you give it away. I was at my grandmother's house, it was like 2:00 AM. And I think it was totally wisdom. That inspired me a lot to write 'The fact that'”.
Angelica has been touring the world for a while now. From London to Barcelona and the USA, and will continue for a while. In Mexico we will see her sharing the stage with IDLES in October. And she is still in the stage of shock about it. “The craziest thing for me about being in other places is see how, for example in Germany there were children singing and I was like, 'you Do they speak Spanish? And no, but they are singing 'Juanita'“And it’s so cute. I love it.”
I feel like I'm a cultural mix, so it's great to see (my music) being accepted by a lot of cultures”.
