Interview – VALE LP I am a fragile but also determined “GUAGLIONA”

Interviews

“GUAGLIONA” is the first album of unreleased VALE LP.

GUAGLIONA” is a journey into the world of the young Neapolitan singer-songwriter, who with her words goes to the liveliest and warmest heart of things, addressing the themes and questions of a young 24-year-old girl.

Hers is a narrative that is never banal and so friendship, love, family, the desire for fulfillment and the burning fire of music find in the words of Valentina Sanseverino (her real name) a new narrative perspective.

This attitude of listening to oneself, reflecting on oneself and on life and expressing one's being without superstructures are also reflected in the groove that drags the listener along the 13 tracks that make up the album.

We met her. Here is the story of the album and its sonic and lyrical genesis.

THE ALBUM TRACK BY TRACK

FLOWER FOR YOU one of the last songs to have been written in chronological order, with which Vale LP thanks those who will listen and introduces himself in an intimate way, taking us hand in hand into his life.

AMMA DOES O' POP It is a choral piece with which “I wanted to give voice to young musicians who are approaching the music business without being intimidated and continuing to have fun doing what they love” explains Vale LP.

SWEET BAD DRUG ADDICT It tells the universal experience of love at first sight ('A glance produces a greeting, yours a meeting, mine a desire') which leads to idealizing the person who captures all our attention ('You are my rhyme, new music maestro') and sometimes to neglecting those close to us ('To make you sit down I accommodated everyone outside, and if I inflicted pain I ask forgiveness, bad girl').

FRIENDS ENEMIES love for one's friends is played out through a series of contrasts ('My friends are all bastards, my friends are really nice, they know how to steal other people's girls, my friends are very loyal') that lead us to a simple truth: we accept everything from our friends, for better or for worse, because in the end it is always love that prevails ('Don't try to screw over my friends').

BITCH, song with which Vale LP participated in the latest edition of Sanremo Giovani. “Despite the title, the song speaks of fragility and tenderness, a request for listening and understanding that is made to others but also to oneself” says Vale LP ('And with this cheek, fiery pupils, I am not you, who knows how to forgive yourself, you save your bones, not like me').

BUT WHAT DO YOU CARE ABOUT? It was born as a freestyle and as a freestyle it is direct, cheeky and a little arrogant. It sounds like a mantra of lightness where the present does not matter and we can postpone thoughts to tomorrow.

AT MARIA'S HOUSE… SKIT linked to the previous song. “Both are set in a house but paint an opposite mood, like two sides of the same twenty-four hours” explains Vale LP who adds: “A casa di Maria… Skit” is an intimate song where the fears of judgment on our choices emerge” ('Tu non ti rabbiare, io sono fatto male, che grande dolore essere una permesso').

MAROO FEELINGS, an angry song where emerging artists are the passengers of a boat that takes a journey of hope, that of arriving in a “healthy” land, where a different way of being musicians is possible ('We are all in the same boat, waiting to feel at home, in the middle of a sea of dreams, we only enjoy the breeze').

BAD MOOD, the most mature track on the album and one of the last to be written. “The lyrics,” explains Vale LP, “summarize the concept of loneliness in love, that suffering that each of us can have even though there is love in our lives and how we often mistakenly give those who love us the burden of saving us” ('I can't control it, I love you too much, tell me if you can eat this bad mood').

FORTUNE a very brave song because its aim is to lay yourself bare in front of the one you love and accept that sometimes it's okay not to understand everything about the other but just to trust, to give the other person the tools to try to understand us” says Vale LP. The song is made up of a thousand aspects and narrative levels, from lightness to superstition ('I swear it was there, but you didn't see it too') to more intimate aspects.

THINGS I DON'T TELL ANYONE it's a very personal and intimate song, hence the title. Vale LP talks about his family here, his mother, his grandmother and his sister.
“Through the instruments, the sound of a bass that colors everything, I lay myself bare to tell where I come from.
I needed to say those things and the words came out naturally; Neapolitan allows me to bring out direct and less sugar-coated things.”

FREE TIME song that tells the story of Vale LP's friendship with a dear childhood friend.
They grew up together but are very different from each other: while her friend remained in her hometown, Vale left to chase her dream ('I wanted to leave, you with your fears told me to stay') despite the anxiety that the desire to reach one's goal brings with it ('You are free from the hunger to do, from the vice of having, from a story to rewrite, from you, what a prison it is to dream').

ABOUT VALE LP

Born in 1999, with an angel face and a personality to spare, Valentina Sanseverino grew up on bread and music, learning immediately how to mix rawness and poetry, a perfect mix for an irreverent and direct personality like hers.

Daughter of rap that has now become pop, her music combines elements of hip hop and singer-songwriter music, with strong references to popular culture and influences ranging from soul, to R&B, to funk, from echoes of Neapolitan music by great artists such as Pino Daniele to international artists such as Kanye West.

After having published some tracks on SoundCloud, in 2021 he took part in X Factor where he reaches the final stages by presenting the unreleased “Cheri”

In June 2023, a first EP entitled “e sono felice” arrives, six songs to tell his journey up to that moment. 2023 is a year of great work, writing, live (he opens some stages of Madame’s tour) and a very formative experience such as Sanremo Giovani where he presents himself with “Stronza” reaching the final stages.
