Interview – Les Votives: “Window” is our first window on the world

Interviews

The Les Votives launch their debut EP, “Window”. Anticipated by the single “Feel Aldright”, the project marks the official entry of the Milanese band into the Italian music scene.

Riccardo Lardinelli (voice and guitar), Angelo Randazzo (drums) and Tommaso Venturi (bass) shape a sound that mixes the elegance of the great icons of the past with rebellion and contemporary influences. A mix of musical references that crosses decades, with a fresh and modern look.

“Window” collects seven songs, each with its own identity, but all united by a fil rouge that explores themes of discovery, restlessness and growth. The album opens with “Priscilla”, nostalgic return to youth, and then move on to the release “Feel Aldright”, hymn for those who feel out of place. “I Don't Care” deals with disillusionment with the theme of farewell, while “Pretty” tells about self -awareness. “Supernaturally” moves between mysterious suggestions, “Falafel” transforms the dance in the cathartic act and “Monster” closes the journey with a reflection on relationships and communication.

The aesthetic of “Window” is entrusted to the gaze of the photographer Francis Delacroix, who created an enigmatic cover: behind the lines of a Venetian, there is an unusual trio – a girl, a fire red guitar and a dalmatian – symbols of the variety of influences that characterize the project.

The interview

Your “Window” EP has come out. How are you experiencing this moment? Do you already have some “windows” open to telling this project?

Well, many! Being our first job, there are many news for us. It was a very stimulating job: the first opportunity to make our music feel and pack it in an album – in front, an EP, but almost an album, since there are 7 tracks inside. It was a huge emotion.

The idea of the “window” was born from the title of a song, initially called Windows (later became the Don't Care). We thought: “Why not use it as the title of the EP?” It is a bit of our first occasion, a glimmer that opens. It also represents the courage to dialogue, to welcome the different.

In addition to your sound, which already distinguishes you, there is a strong attention to the texts. What is the relationship between lyric and music in your creative process?

We aim for a perfect balance, 50 and 50. We write the texts all together, always trying to give depth and meaning to words, without sacrificing the power of sound. Each song tells something intimate and universal at the same time.

Your live impact was incredible. Did you expect this success?

No, absolutely! We have always played, we have made apprenticeship everywhere, from bars to smaller clubs. Finding us in front of an audience that rosses to listen to us was shocking. The first evening was a unique emotion, and having Achille Lauro with us for two pieces was special.

X Factor was a springboard for you. How do you feel after that experience?

X Factor was an important experience, but we have always fought to remain authentic. Of course, he made us grow and mature, but our goal has always been to remain faithful to our music.

The cover of your EP is very particular. How did the collaboration with the photographer Francis Delacroix come about?

We have been following him for years and we have always been fascinated by his shots. Thanks to common friends, we managed to collaborate. For us it was an honor, also because he worked with artists that we admire a lot. He is the last of the pirates, a real rock star.

And what about the future? Do you already plan summer festivals?

We are closing some dates. Summer will be dedicated to writing and live. You will definitely find us on some important stage!
