Interview: HOLDEN: “Joseph” is my sound dimension

Interviews

“JOSEPH”, the new EP by Holden. Six songs written, composed and produced by the singer-songwriter.

The album is a sonic exploration that embraces a wide range of influences, from urban to electronic, passing through the suggestive singer-songwriter dimension.

In each track, Holden confirms his ability to reinvent himself and capture the audience's attention with a personal and innovative sound.

A project that demonstrates an eclectic and versatile talent, with an artistic path in constant growth that had already seen him publish two EPs in the past (“Il giovane Holden” in 2019 and “Prologue” in 2021) and get a platinum record with the single “Na Na Na”, which currently has over 49 million streams.

The name Holden, pseudonym of Joseph Carta, takes inspiration from the protagonist of JD Salinger's novel “The Catcher in the Rye”.

In “Joseph” he wrote, composed and produced the various songs.

I called myself Holden precisely because I have a somewhat particular character and I see myself and identify with the book's protagonist for his strength of mind, his stubbornness and his aspirations.
I felt a little represented by this character.

Amici was first of all a personal challenge that led me to grow professionally, a bit like high school, when you do it you're lazy but then when it comes to the end you miss it and you would do it again.

A fun but also challenging experience and looking back it was a really beautiful journey.
The main regret is that at the beginning the anxiety and fear did not let me live the various performances 100%.
If I had to do it again, I would do it with much greater peace of mind.

I have always listened to music in my family and there has always been music: drums, piano and guitar have always been in the house and I learned to play these instruments since I was little.
Besides my father, my brothers also make music and this has been a precious resource.
At first I listened to a lot of EDM music, then I started listening to a bit of everything.

The singer-songwriter stands out for his commitment to personally creating all his productions, an artistic unicum that demonstrates a deep passion and technical knowledge of music and a creative vision that allow him to express his strong musical identity.

TRACK BY TRACK

“RANDAGI”, a song with a melodic beat that tells a story full of complicity and difficulty, of which only contrasting emotions and the desire to escape reality remain.

“NON SIAMO PIÙ NOI DUE (feat Gaia)”. Holden and the Italian-Brazilian singer-songwriter transport the listener to another dimension as they wonder what remains of a love for which, after having given themselves their all, they no longer recognize themselves, but are ready to make the same mistakes again to find themselves.

“OSSIDIANA”, a song with an engaging rhythm, just like the relationship it tells: full of passion and darker, more mysterious nuances, like the color of volcanic stone.

“SOLO STANOTTE”, a melancholic but at the same time liberating song, Holden tells of a nocturnal reflection during which he realizes that he is living every moment of his love story as if it were his last.

“NUVOLA”, a gold-certified single, co-written with Angelina Mango and co-produced by Zef, is the cry of those who have difficulty communicating their feelings, thus remaining trapped in their own mind for fear of ruining every bond carefully created over time.

“DIMMI CHE NON È UN ADDIO”, the song with the highest number of streams in the first 24 hours since its release in the history of the talent show Amici, in which Holden tries to courageously face a separation, with the hope that it is not definitive, trying to cling to the idea of a future together that is still possible.
