Interview – Folkstone – “Dead Nature” is a romantic scream

Interviews

“Morta Natura” is the new album of the Folkstone, a double album with a melancholy and sincere, but also powerful and vibrant energy soul.

The album is enriched with the participation of important featuring with artists such as Modena City Ramblers in Fragile, Trevor Sadist in the Mediterranean, Daridel in Mala Tempara Currunt and Punkreas in La Fabbrica dei Ritenti.

Music is orchestra between coats, harp and other instruments that, with their charm, evoke distant times. The texts, on the other hand, are always rooted in the here and in the hour, ready to portray glimpses of humanity with an eye that, rather than critical, remains sensitive from the first to the last line. A light -hearted and romantic portrait of our lives and the world around us.

The interview

Dead nature: what does this new chapter represent for you?

From depth to light, a call to a decadent atmosphere between emotion and awareness. We fall into the bowels of life to savor the deepest romanticism.

It is an intimate chapter, which reflects our experience of recent years. He portrays our thoughts, our way of living a daily life made of lights and shadows, of aspects that deserve to have lived deeply.
With a dead nature we wanted to express our relationship with music and the present in a romantic and passionate way. This is the common thread of the album.

From the lyrical point of view it is a very intense album. There is constant research not only in style, but also in content.

Absolutely yes. It can be summarized as a romantic scream. We felt the urgency to express these sensations, so much so that a double album with 16 tracks, which is now uncommon.
In an era dominated by individuals, this is a countercurrent choice.
Yes, and whoever wants to listen to it will have to take the necessary time. Many have given us crazy, and maybe we really are!

Our “dead nature” is a lost look in life, a sense of mystical disorder and a dose of disillusionment born from a constant and self -critical reflection. All always with a smile on the lips, always aware of the daily reality, so wonderful and poignant at the same time. We are in the era of pushed materialism. Ours wants to be a desperately romantic scream ».

How did your audience implemented this choice?

We are not a band from Sanremo or summer hit, but we have a solid audience that will surely appreciate.

How will this project be translated into the live dimension?

We will present it with three dates to the Legend. It will be the heart of a series of concerts that will start shortly and will accompany us to next winter.
Obviously we will also propose some historical songs, but the focus will be on dead nature.

Compared to your previous works, were there any differences in the creative process?

Yes, a substantial difference is that the lyrics and melodies were born in close collaboration between me and Robi, unlike the past in which everyone wrote their own pieces. This sharing gave a particular imprint to the album.

Outside your music, what do you listen to?

Everything depends on mood. I love the 70s, from Janis Joplin to Creedence Clearwater Revival, but I also listen to Reggae, Dubstep and Metal if I need charge.

The cover: why this choice?

I've always been a big fan of Guccini. The last Thule We brought her live since 2016. We had never recorded it, and in the end we said: “Why not?”. Live was working, it seemed to us in our ropes.

Is there a dream in the drawer? A collaboration that you would like to achieve?

Our dream is always the same: get to as many people as possible, bring our music around. The live dimension is our essence.
We would like to take an even wider tour. Not only 20-30 dates, but also 90!

So are you already preparing a dense calendar of concerts?

Absolutely yes. Our natural dimension is live, and that's where we want to be.

The video

The “dead nature” video clip is a gift for fans, who will be able to immerse themselves in a visual dimension full of suggestion. The video is characterized by a suspended and mysterious atmosphere, where time seems to escape any explanation. Between cuts of warm light and shots that recall the intimacy of a polaroid, each image tells a story without words, a frozen moment in eternity.
