The second preview, “Knockin' Heart,” is available now.
Hamilton Leithauserrecognized for his work with the American rock band, The Walkmenannounced the release of his new solo album titled This Side of the Islandwhich will be released on March 7 through glassnote. This material will be the successor of The Loves of Your Life (2020) and shows a sonic evolution in the artist's career.
The first preview, “This Side of the Island”was released last month and, recently, Leithauser shared “Knockin' Heart”accompanied by an animated music video that stands out for its nostalgic and dreamlike visual style.
It's 'I will love you all my life if you let me'. I wrote and recorded it one night and kept it for over a year. I knew I liked it and I didn't want to ruin anything by trying to perfect it. “It was the last song I played for Aaron when we got together and the first one he helped me work on,” the musician said in a press release.
The album, which is expected to have nine songs, was co-produced by Leithauser with his wife, Anna Stumpfand Aaron Dessnerknown for his work with The National. Dessner contributed an innovative bass technique, which he mentioned having previously used on a song by Taylor Swift. This approach allowed multiple layers of bass to be added, creating a deep, enveloping sound in “Knockin' Heart”.
To promote the album, the artist has a series of concerts scheduled in Los Angeles, London, Toronto and Chicago. In addition, he will carry out his seventh residency at the iconic Carlyle Cafe from New York.
This Side of the Island It will be the first solo album of Leithauser after the meeting of The Walkmen in 2023, which marked the band's return after a decade without live performances. With the previews already available, this release promises to further consolidate the creative side of the musician. We look forward to hearing the full album this March 7th!
